Book Description

Homeopathy, with its "less is more" approach to using medicine, is proving to be among the most effective forms of alternative medicine. Its ever-growing popularity has newcomers and experts alike searching for the ultimate guide to understanding and using homeopathy. With this Encyclopedia of Homeopathy, that search is over. This authoritative volume combines a comprehensive explanation of the key theories and methods of practice with a meticulously researched reference section that details more than 320 remedies. Special features include a unique Materia Medica and a practical family guide. A beautifully illustrated Materia Medica section provides a full profile of each remedy, including its origin, historical and medicinal background, and preparation. It describes the principal physical, psychological, and emotional symptoms associated with finding the right remedy. In addition, a special section on serious ailments outlines how a professional homeopath approaches major health concerns. Self-Help remedies are recommended for over 100 common ailments, such as colic in babies, premenstrual tension, insomnia, and sciatica. Carefully devised checklists for both physical and mental symptoms make accurate self-assessment easier than ever before. Comprehensive, practical, and easily accessible, the Encyclopedia of Homeopathy offers essential information and practical guidance for everyone wishing to explore the healing properties and uses of this unique system of medicine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book - more detailed and better looking than others, May 22 2002
This review is from: Encyclopedia Of Homeopathy (Hardcover)
One of the more complete and well illustrated books available. This would suit a detail-oriented, inquisitive mind. DK also publishes simpler books on homeopathy and alternative medicine which would better suit those looking for an introduction. Why only 4-stars then? Well, the book is still incomplete for somebody looking to self-medicate (which is probably safe but a bad idea anyway), and I find that the description of how homeopathy works rather weak and unscientific. Although I know two people who claim to have been cured by it. There seems to be a tendency to pass off old, inadequate research as "good enough" -- well in this day and age I would expect better; the author is an MD after all. "Hair of cat" as a cure for cat allergies strikes me as similar to "hair of the dog" for hangovers (at least there was no eye-of-newt).

4.0 out of 5 stars Homeopathy : An easy approach, July 9 2001
By
José Carsolio (México D. F. , México) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Encyclopedia Of Homeopathy (Hardcover)
How to understand history and development of homeopathy?

I was searching and no book convinces me, but when finally found this volume, I found the easiest way to understand and "feel" the homeopathic system. The book is divided basically in three sections: -Mineral remedies -Vegetal remedies -Symptoms and the appropriate homeopathic medicine.

It has a lot of illustrations and guides through the very special world of homeopathy, allowing to learn (the easy way) this fascinating matter!.

By Ca Hartlage - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Encyclopedia Of Homeopathy (Hardcover)
This is an easy to use guide to homeopathic remedies, with lots of detailed information about the remedies and how they should be used. It also has a list of common ailments for adults and children with a guide to remedies to treat them, both with homeopathic remedies and home treatments - and when to stop trying to solve the problem yourself and head to the doctor!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent reference book, Jan 30 2009
By good stuff "mom" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Encyclopedia Of Homeopathy (Hardcover)
I found this book extremely helpful as a reference. Most homeopathic medicines work according to one's personality and no doctor can evaluate that in just few visits. This book helps to match the medicine best suited for you. It has good remedies for common health problems given at the end of the book.
