A largely entertaining anthology from a collection of new authors..., Dec 22 2009

This review is from: End of Days 2: An Apocalyptic Anthology (Paperback)
For being comprised almost entirely of authors whose previous printed work credentials are seemingly minimal, the collection of stories in this book is largely well-written and entertaining. Some standout stories include:
-->"Sea of Glass" by Michael D. Griffiths: the story is intelligently written and doesn't feel the need to provide every little detail for the reader, leaving us to make our own opinions and assumptions on some of the important ideas. Well-worded depictions of the "crystallized" deaths of the characters illustrate these sequences very effectively.
-->"The Nuances of Disassembly" by Tony Schaab: this is the most unique story in the entire book. The other authors take a very straightforward approach to how the world ends, telling stories from the point of view of various survivors; without giving too much away, this story is told from the approach of a non-Earth-based observer, and Schaab tactfully combines moments of wit, insight, emotion, and comedy to easily keep his readers captivated and help his readers see our world in a whole new way. A very well-constructed story from start to finish.
-->"Deluge" and "The Last One" by Anthony Giangregorio: these two stories were written by the editor of this book, who is also the author of numerous other full-length novels. His style is very evident here, and there is never a dull moment in any of Giangregorio's writings, these two stories definitely included.
All in all, this is a book that is well worth they money spent. You get a look at some promising new writers, and get to hear many different ways how the world might end - a win-win if you are looking for something new and exciting to read!

The End of Tomorrow, April 26 2010

A nice collection of 17 stories by 16 different writers, dealing with the ultimate demise of mankind.
"The Hole in The Sky", by Edward Grizzle was a wonderful story that left me at peace. Not many end of the world stories can do that.
"The Nuances of Disassembly", by Tony Schaab, not only has one of the best titles of a story ever, but from a perspective seldom explored.
I enjoyed the book so much I ordered End of Days 1.

Enjoyable read, Dec 15 2010

The nice thing about short stories is simply the variety and knowing if you hit a bad story it's over soon enough. Fortunately most of the stories in End of Days:2 were fairly good. The books a little thin in pages for the cost but otherwise a good read.
