Product Description

Description

A film by Carlo Carlei. Starring Sergio Castellitto as Enzo Ferrari. This is the story of the man who created the greatest automobile empire in history, from poverty to riches, through passion, ruthlessness and brutal character. We meet Ferrari as an old man, disturbed by memories of the past and by all the things he lost on his way to success. We see him still tormented and hounded by journalists and paparazzi who, from the start would never leave him in peace. One journalist stands out. Someone who seems to know even the darkest secrets of his past and who is determined to get the final and most intimate interview at all costs. Ferrari succumbs to his incessant demands. Through this interview Ferrari's life unfolds, as he recounts his early love of racing, the difficult relationship with his father and older brother, his closeness to his mother, and the death of another brother during the war. And he tells of his overbearing dream from a young age to build the fastest, most prestigious and unbeatable racing car of all time. But as the journalist delves deeper into Ferrari's innermost thoughts, we understand the real price he had to pay for this dream. Continuing on this turbulent ride, the mystery unfolds. There is no journalist confronting him. This is his own conscience that he is facing; that he must contend with before he can make peace with himself. And we fully understand that this has been his greatest battle and the most important victory of his life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inside the mind of a legend, July 19 2005
By M. Pantuso - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Enzo Ferrari (DVD)
Great movie of Enzo Ferrari's life. From the turbulent times between racing, building cars, his family and his conscience. In order to understand and love this movies a much as I did, you have to want to know what Enzo Ferrari was thinking in order to achieve his goals and success. Mr. Ferrari tells his story to a journalist who asks specific questions that Enzo himself wonders where or how he knows that about him. The journalist seems to know as much about Mr. Ferrari than he knows about himself. But he is not asking for an answer, more like a confession of his feelings. From his son Dino dying, his drivers dying in crashes on the tracks, from the public thinking his racecars are unsafe to his double life as a father. One of the best "biography" movie I have seen yet from rags to riches in creating a legend in the racing and automobile history.

I must admit that I was not knowledgeable about Enzo Ferrai's

personal life. His relationship with Dino and later with Piero.

Here is Enzo with the 'warts' of his personal life and public's

view both creating the legend that bigger than life. Leaves you wanting more (and that is a good thing).

5.0 out of 5 stars Enzo Ferrari starring Sergio Castellitto, Aug 15 2006
By John T. Dowling "John Dowling" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Enzo Ferrari (DVD)
What a rivitting movie! The movie deals briefly with Enzo Ferrari's childhood and young adult years, then mostly from WWII until the early 60's. There are other brief flashes into the 70's and 80's, but not much. The main theme of the movie are the events that shaped Enzo Ferrari's life, and not so much about actual racing or running a racing team. The story focuses mainly on his personal life, the two women in his life who each gave him a child, and how conflicted he felt with people getting killed in his cars. The great news is that this movie would appeal to racing fans and non-racing fans (read: wives) because it is more a human interest story than a hard core gearhead movie. With the blessing of Piero Ferrari, Luca de Montezemolo and the Ferrari factory, the historic racecars gathered for the scenes are amazing!
