Evil aliens, super villains,doubles,romance,leather-it's all in here,

This review is from: Essential X-Men - Volume 4 (Paperback)
I highly recommend this collection of X-men stories from late 1982 to early 1984.This set has introductions andexciting character development, plus interesting plots.Callisto, the Morlocks,Madelyne Pryor, and the New mutants make their first and/or several early appearances here.Rogue joins the X-men in this set.She is very interesting as a character because her mind can't be read and you don't always know what she's thinking but she becomes a likable character despite her previous villainy.Storm meets Yukio, and then undergoes her transformation into a mohawk sporting, leather punk queen which I absolutely loved.Kitty tries several times to do the horizontal mambo with Peter but gets interrupted by her worst enemy, editor-in-chief,Jim Shooter. The X-kinkiness doesn't stop there kink fans. Some might say Scott's infatuation with Madelyne (because she looks and sounds like Jean Grey) is just a tad kinky. But what I'm referring to is that Angel/Warren Worthington III is kidnapped, stripped, and tied up-to be Callisto's boy toy/male concubine-a classic Claremont trope which, for me, never gets old.The art itself is fantastic in this series.I like the different styles of Dave Cockrum,Paul Smith, and John Romita Jr.I highly recommend this set, many events in these issues set the stage for upcoming "epic" conclusions.

This review is from: Essential X-Men Volume 4 TPB (Paperback)
I bought all of these to back track and read the previous things that had happened within the comic. This serves the purpose but was disapointed that they were not in color.

A second silver age...,

This review is from: Essential X-Men Volume 4 TPB (Paperback)
The reviwer who says that the X-Men had lost its luster at this point is plain wrong. This volume contains the run drawn by the amazing Paul Smith (Golden Age, Leave It To Chance) and is as good as any other great run on this title. The character development and plots in this volume are Claremont at his best.
