Must Even Out,
By
This review is from: Ethnicity (Audio CD)
I've been a Yanni fan since I got "live from acropolis" album. I liked the instrumental music he makes. I've been to one of his concerts and loved it. Ethnicity, which I bought before hearing any of the songs, is not Yanni. Most of the songs has vocals. Which muffles the true instrumental sounds. I don't like this CD because of this...too much vocals which actually becomes monotonous Afro-Egyptian style chanting. Yanni should stick to intsrumentals. If he makes more music like these, Ethnicity is the last Yanni album I'll buy. So, if you like Yanni becaue of his style of true instrumental music, don't waste your money on this.

Thanks For The Introduction To Mehdi,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ethnicity (Audio CD)
I've always enjoyed Yanni and this album is no exception, but while reading some of the customer recommendations posted on this page I discovered an artist by the name of Mehdi (pronounced meddie). After some investigation I found his site (SoothingMusic.Com) and listened to the samples...I also downloaded some of the free MP3 downloads that are available on Amazon.com.I was instantly blown away by the quality of this music and so I gave it a try and now that I have listened to his CDs several times I really must say that although I'm still a Yanni fan I find Mehdi to be a tad more interesting. I have them both in my multi-disc CD player and love the way they compliment each other. I highly recommend that you give this artist a try or atleast just go listen to the samples, I have a feeling you'll be glad you did.

Leaves Me Questioning,
By Baroness Von Grim "Ophelia Grim" (Verslums) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ethnicity (Audio CD)
Yawni (as I like to call him) was a pretty cool fella when he was dating Linda Evans and her shoulder pads but since the break-up he has gone straight down hill. As a belly dancer who once lived in Borneo, I truly love ethnic music but Mr. Yawni has taken out the city and left us with ethni which makes no sense to me. I like the African influences and the ethereal female vocals but other than that I can find no use for this album. I can't even sleep to it because it keeps me awake wondering "why, Yawni, why?". I prefer Niki Nana because it reminds me of my sweet ole granny with her support hose falling down around her ankles as she taught me belly dancing to the raging rhythms of "Never Dance with a Stranger" (something granny taught me never to do because men, she'd say, are like whiskey and cigarettes - bad habits hard to break). Therefore, I belly dance.
