When I first saw this in theatres I was intrigued by the changes that had been made to the original script but I was unprepared for how mind bogglingly good this film is. Now that it has been released on DVD and Blue-Ray it's even better as you can bring that experience home. Evangelion 2.22 is simply put; gorgeous in all respects and I found myself watching it three days in a row. The CGI is tasteful, yet bold and the sound is perfect, I especially like how they brought back so much of the original cast to do the voice acting. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone, even if they have never before watched anime.

I got this launch day. Watched it 4 times in 3 days, once with commentary. If you're at interested in the series I highly recommend it. What Mr. Anno has done with his movies is simply breathtaking. He is able to take the parts of what I love from the series and infusing it with the technological advances of today in a way that leaves your jaw all over the floor. The characters are still at the center of this iteration of the series and are equally if not more endearing and identifiable. I honestly don't have a single negative thing to say about this on blu ray other than the extras are a little lacking, but I just am left with such an intense longing for more from this series that I'm not sure they could have put enough int o satisfy me anyways. The commentary didn't run the length of the movie which was a little disappointing. All in all, if you liked the series at all, get this. Today.

Just finished watching and I can honestly say the graphics were superb! The best combo of CG and drawn Anime I've seen since the original, having watched countless other titles between. This storyline does diverge quite a bit from the original and if you have ever watched the original there will be parts in this movie where you will kinda scratch your head and go "wait they are already at that part where this happened??" But if after that, you ignore that thought and just let the movie run its course and watch, you will be satisfied and, like me, eagerly waiting for the concluding two movies coming soon in the next couple of years. The extras included in this Blu-ray are top notch also. I especially like the concept art segments. In conclusion, I give the original series a 9/10 and I would give this series the same 9/10. It's like your first car compared that luxury car you buy years later. Both are your baby, its just the luxury car improved greatly what you already liked and added a couple extras and improved performance.
