Event Horizon is great-looking film with decent acting and an appropriately chilling atmosphere. The movie is set in the late 21st century, with mankind exploring the solar system. Several years after disappearing during the first "faster-than-light" space flight, the Event Horizon suddenly reappears in orbit around Neptune, and a crack crew of emergency rescue astronauts led by Lawrence Fishburne and including the Horizon's creator Sam Neill are sent to investigate. When they arrive, the ship is deserted and the search for answers begins. The second act, as creepy things happen on board the ship, is suspenseful and intense enough. Unfortunately, the third act of the film degenerates into a typical horror flick complete with over-the-top gore, stupid decisions by characters, and deaths you can see coming a mile away. Still, the look and atmosphere carry the film, as does the acting of the two leads, even though the script doesn't challenge them anymore than it does the viewer. Lots of behind-the-scenes extras focusing on the effects and story development, with actor and director interviews and the like, but nothing new made for Blu-Ray.
