Book Description

Oct 11 2010
Kate Murray is deeply troubled. In front of her lies a dead man, a stranger who only minutes before had spoken to her - about a mystery, a long-forgotten murder and, most worryingly, her grandmother. His story was old, he had told her, but still deserving of justice.
Soon Kate is caught up in a dangerous whirlwind of events that takes her back into her grandmother's mysterious war-time past and across the Atlantic as she tries to retrace the dead man's footsteps. Finding out the truth is not so simple, however, as only a few people are still alive who know the story...and Kate soon realises that her questions are putting their lives in danger. Stalked by an unknown and sinister enemy, she must use her tough journalistic instinct to find the answers from the past in order to have a future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every Secret Thing Aug 2 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Not since Marianna, have I been unable to put one of Susanna Kearsley's novels down! I was so enthralled in this one, it took me only half a day to read it. The story line surrounds a young journalist who watches an older man die in front of her, who minutes before, claimed to know her very private and tight lipped grandmother. It is this young girl's job to uncover why this man was run down, and how it all ties into her family. Susanna expertly travels back and forth in time from WWII and the present, to help the reader understand the contextual factors surrounding this romantic and action packed mystery. Although the ending is somewhat predictable, it still had a engrossing quality which left you wanting more. My only criticism is that the heroine in the story, Kate, is supposed to be a carefree, young, 25yr old journalist, but she actually possesses exceptional, in depth worldly knowledge and expertise, that would be expected in someone much older than 25yrs old. I would have liked to have learned a little more about some of the characters, but otherwise, this is an excellent and relaxing summertime read. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! April 15 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Once again Susanna Kearsley has gone and done it! She's definitely a very artistic and creative writer.

This novel is so brilliantly written, I ended up in tears while reading it and even after I have finished. I absolutely love all the characters in this novel and enjoyed all the small twist and turns and their significant parts they played.

My heart and soul goes out to Andrew Deacon and Amelia Clarke-Deacon/Murray. No one should have to go through what these two characters went through. To find a man such as Andrew Deacon would be to find God himself!

Thanks Susanna, for a mesmerizing piece of brilliancy. I will so treasure this novel till the day I die! That's how much this has touched me :)
