Product Description

The final deluxe hardcover collection of Brian K. Vaughan’s spectacular series mixing politics and superheroes.

In this last deluxe EX MACHINA hardcover, Mayor Mitchell Hundred descends into the NYC sewers to learn why he was given the strange powers that helped him become the heroic Great Machine while a powerful new foe reveals a terrifying plan that’s been in the works since the series began.

Then, in the very last EX MACHINA adventure, will Mitchell Hundred’s new archenemy, a dogged reporter with powers far beyond those of the Great Machine, finally bring down his administration? Will the tragedies that Mayor Hundred warned about from the beginning finally come to pass?

2.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, Mishmashed ending, April 25 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ex Machina Deluxe Book 5 (Hardcover)
In the first two volumes, the series was amazing. It balanced political drama with superhero action perfectly. After the first two hardcovers, the series spirals downwards, focusing more and more on juvenile storytelling of superhero stories. The final volume seems to have been rushed out of the hands of Brian K Vaughan as many questions are left unanswered from early on in the series and more questions are brought forth because of the ending that is seemingly pulled out of the blue.

2.0 out of 5 stars Showed promise but disappointed, Aug 2 2011
This review is from: Ex Machina Deluxe Book 5 (Hardcover)
Sci-Fi with a political slant is a pretty enticing concept and the first issue of this comic leaves you wanting more; especially when it's revealed that the protagonist used his new-found powers to save one of the twin towers on 9-11. As you read more, the story gets better and the plot thickens as story lines jump back and forth in time. Book 5 captures the last batch of comics in this series and, unfortunately, the story takes a dive. What could have been a very interesting sci-fi source of the main character's power turns out to be fairly fantastical and over-the-top. The violence seems unnecessary and is rather sickening as it's directed at the most vulnerable, i.e. a baby attacked by rats, a senior decapitated, etc. Sorry, this one is not worth keeping.

This review is from: Ex Machina Deluxe Book 5 (Hardcover)
The fifth volume of Brian K Vaughan's epic, comes to a conclusion.
Much like Y The Last Man, before it, I enjoyed every minute of the ride but I am not fond of the conclusion.
Definitely still a must read, and a great conversation piece amongst Vaughan fans.
