Book Description

June 16 2008 1893858553 978-1893858558 2
The passages in this book have been designed to closely resemble official MCAT Verbal passages. From the type font to the subject matter to the number of words in each passage, question, and answer choice, these exas have the real MCAT feel. The questions in this book accurately duplicate the intended ambiguity that is the challenge of the actual MCAT. As is true of the official MCAT, you won't find the answers to these questions by hunting through the passages to find specific details. Instead, you'll need to understand the passeges in their entirety, just as you will on official MCAT day. The explanations in this book provide a comprehensive breakdown of correct, and incorrect answer choices. If you want lots of practice with tough, accurate MCAT exams to boost your Verbal Reasoning score on MCAT day, this book is for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not sure what to think.... June 26 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this book with high hopes after reading all the reviews. There were plenty of errors (especially with regards to the answer key...be aware) but mostly I found that the score I was getting in these tests was way off from the scores I was getting from the AAMC practice tests. These tests are good practice for timing and structure, but the answers they provide are purposefully tricky and often misleading...even more so than the actual MCAT....which is saying something. I think it is useful, but only in addition to the practice tests provided by the AAMC.

5.0 out of 5 stars Verbal practice at it's best Jan. 18 2012
Format:Paperback
One of the best books for verbal reasoning. I used this book as well as the Kaplan one and earned 11 on VR. :).

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Useful Aug. 7 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I purchased this book and utilized it as my main source for verbal prep. Although I did not complete the book cover to cover I did find it useful for preparing myself for the verbal section of the MCAT.

I made sure to time myself while completing the practice passages so that I could get my timing down for the real thing.

I ended up achieving my goal for verbal on the real deal (>10).

2.0 out of 5 stars Same as the first edition June 2 2014
By William
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is not worth buying, all of the passages except for a few are the exact same as the first edition which can be purchased for much less. The only difference between this and the first edition is that this is divided into 60 min tests while the first ed is in 85 min tests.
That being said, the tests are very helpful and seem to be good practice. I would definitely recommend buying the first ed unless this is on sale for cheap.

2.0 out of 5 stars Avoid! May 25 2014
By Amir S.
Format:Paperback
This book is very poorly written. The explanations for answers aren't descriptive. For example, the question will ask what assumption is made and the explanation will be "it is clear that the idea implies [reworded answer]". The author does an incredibly poor job with this book and I would recommend you to avoid it at all costs. The only thing that stopped me from giving it 1 star is how it gives you 101 passages, which is quite a bit of practice. But otherwise, avoid this book! I found Princeton Review to be better, giving more detailed explanations. Kaplan was alright as well; I had no problems with that. But Examkrackers is not good. I regret my purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must in VR March 23 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Honestly thought it best represented the actual verbal section. Also, ample prep in the book is given as 101 passages takes quite a while.

5.0 out of 5 stars Raised my MCAT by 5 points Nov. 25 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The tests are amazing and helped me a lot when I studied. The scores in this book were similar to what I got in the real thing. The price is very fair. So worth it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay Aug. 25 2013
By Nathan
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Okay but not so great. Very difficult passages and seems like it doesn't help. I suggest using the princeton hyper learning verbal book because passages are very similar to actual mcat. Maybe use this as complement. Don't rely too much on this.
