You can always rely on Chicago-based vinyl junkie Felix Da Housecat to turn out a mix CD with a bit of a character. Excursions is a million miles from the frightfully dull progressive house brigade. Felix Da Housecat has been a particularly vocal advocate of the 80s electro-pop revival: it was his 2001 album, Kittenz And Thee Glitz, that brought the mercurial talents of French ice queen Miss Kitten--the vocalist of genre-defining synthcore duo Miss Kitten & The Hacker--to the world stage.
Da Housecat's distinctive remix style demonstrates all the hallmarks of the revival sound: synth-heavy minimal house, poised at the midpoint between the robotic funk of Giorgio Moroder and the immediate disco fever of Daft Punk. Dance Orientated Electro House,

Interesting how the tides have turned in the world of electronica once again. Yes, electro house and minimalist house have both exploded in popularity and dare I say have entered the forbidden realm of mainstream?I wonder what Felix Da Housecat thinks of all the hype that these genres have gained since 2006? Well, have a listen to Excursions by yours truly and you'll hear for yourself that this man has been doing it with electro house years before. Maybe a little ahead of its time? The trouble with Felix's contribution to Excursions was its release date. The year 2002. When progressive tracks, compilations, and albums reigned supreme. I actually like this album better than a lot of todays electro house albums that are flocking to the shelves. Electronica serves a variety of purposes for different people, but my gripe with a lot of the recent releases of electro house tracks is that they lack any sort of beat, melody or rhythm. Aren't these elements the essence of what makes music...music? Mind you, there are a lot of ho-hum tracks on this album, but when "Gas 126" by Kiki hits, the mix just takes off before grounding again after "Over the Hill". These three tracks may be old but I rather be on the dancefloor to this trio versus a lot of what is being produced now. 3.5/5 stars

Very good track selection ruined by questionable mixing. I mean the first 3 mixes not only aren't properly matched, the location of the mix is poor. Aside from that, great tracks. Bring back the 80's!

Ok, I normally don't write reviews for Amazon but I'm at work and bored so I thought I'd tell everyone just how good I think this CD is. I got this CD last summer and it was pretty much my theme CD then but on a recent road trip to Moab I really realized that this is simply one of the best house CD's ever mixed. Housecat is one of the founding fathers of the whole Electro / New Wave reincarnation and this CD doesn't just say New Wave is back, but slaps you in the face with it. This mixing is unbelievable on this CD, It is so aggressive through the first seven or eight songs. There is no letdown. As soon as the current song climaxes, the next song is in, unlike the very standard, predictable mixing on most recent progressive house mixes. Don't get me wrong I love progressive house but the market is saturated with it and the more people that put out a boring mix the more the genre is hurt. This CD is passionate and unique and in my opinion a CD that helped kick start Electro into the mainstream.
