Published in 1993, this is the first of Basil Copper's offerings to his new publishers, Fedogan and Bremer, after withdrawing from Pinnacle Books because their in-house editors kept making unauthorized changes to his copy. "The Exploits of Solar Pons" has come out in hardcover only. Only 1900 copies of the trade edition were printed, plus 100 copies of a limited edition.
The book contains four original stories:
The Adventure of The Verger's Thumb
Pons and Parker's vacation to Norwich is interrupted when strange goings-on at the Cathedral prompt the Dean of Norwich himself to ask them to investigate.
The Adventure of The Phantom Face
A series of appearances in a village by a "phantom face" culminates in the death by heart attack of a wealthy landowner and prompts the man's nephew to turn to Pons when the local police do not seem to have any idea what is going on.
Death at the Metropole
A man is found dead in his locked room at the Metropole Hotel. The police arrest the hotel manager for no reason other than that he had access to the room key, so he appeals to Pons to clear his name.
The Adventure of The Callous Colonel
Colonel Alistair McDonald, "the third most dangerous man in Europe," makes a sudden attempt on the life of Solar Pons as a pre-emptive strike prior to starting a new evil scheme that he is rightfully concerned Pons will try to break up.
Fedogan and Bremer still have trade edition copies of the book available at list price.
