A must-read for all graphic designers!,
By Peter Thorton "Pete" (Toronto, Ontario, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Exploring Digital PrePress (Paperback)
No designer or print production artist should be without this book. It has everything you need to realize your ideas unto a printed page. Lots of great illustrations and tips keep you on top of what is necessary to be a pre-press expert. If you're in the design business, you can't live without it!

A good book for beginners or intermediate prepress operators who want to brush up on their skills. It covers all the major prepress topics and provides tips on best practices. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to start their own desktop publishing business.

Well Thought-out, Practical and Inclusive,
By Stephen A. Beals "printoolz" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Exploring Digital PrePress (Paperback)
This is a well thought-out, practical and inclusive text that should do well for anyone who wants to get a broad overview of digital print production. It's clearly written by someone who knows the the subject not just from an academic point of view (Anderson teaches Graphic Design at Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario), but also from the practiced eye of someone who has been in the trenches.
He deals with fonts, chokes and spreads, tone reproduction and resolution, PitStop fixes and all those annoying problems that real-world pre-press technicians deal with on a daily basis. It's not so basic that it won't prove helpful to someone who has some experience under his or her belt, but it seems designed to give the student or new employee a truly well-rounded introduction that will serve them well for years to come. As someone who has done some textbook writing, I know how difficult it can be to select the right material that will prove most helpful when it comes to handling live jobs. The author's selection of material is right on, and his coverage is thorough. The text and graphics are well-integrated, straightforward and concise.
