Whatever happened to the experimenters?,
By
This review is from: Exposure (Audio CD)
I own the record, bought in 1979 - I was in Grad School and we were sure we were on top of what was too cool. Robert Fripp, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, John Cale.... indeed. This album, is a fine unity, comprised of Frippertronics (which I note is still in use, with an advanced master showing up on YouTube), a bit of synthesizer, some spliced speeches and conversations, and some very beautiful songs, sung by Darryl Hall, Peter Gabriel, Peter Hamill and Joanne Walton. My wife and I listened to both CDs the other night and commented on the dearth of intelligent and experimental/artistic music benig composed today. The work did not sound dated, was not pretentious, but was enjoyable listening and, yes, is still cool. It is definitely more accessible than Under Heavy Manners/God Save the Queen or the League of Gentlemen or some of Eno's ambient music (which are, themselves, still worth the play). The bonus to this was the inclusion of Version 3 from 1984 plus 4 songs 'formerly unreleased' by Darryl Hall. Exposure

more than ever!,

I knew, when I've bought the original vinyl in the '80s, that the King Crimson mastermind was an above-the -crowd composer. This complete 2CD re-edition of "Exposure" delivers a clear and crisp music that sounds more of our time than ever. The booklet notes are encyclopedics and tell a lot about the man that looks more like the guy next door than a guitar afficionado!

I originally had this album on vinyl and it sounds even better on CD. This album is still sounds fresh after all these years. If you are a fan of the likes of Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, or even the modern electronic stuff, get this CD.
