4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent card...already comes with Firewire cable...not mentioned Dec 4 2009

The card works like a charm. I can plug it right into the PCMCIA Express port on my laptop and can stream my video camera. The ad does NOT say that a cable comes with it, but it does. SO, I'll have to return the cable I purchased separately. Other than that, excellent product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works as expected Feb 2 2010

This expresscard/34mm fits into my Acer 6530-6522 laptop (Vista Home Premium) as expected which has an expresscard/54mm slot. As the previous reviewer mentioned, this card comes with a convenient i.Link cable in the package. Just insert the card into my laptop, then connnect the laptop to my Sony DCR TRV460 (Digital8) camcorder using the cable, and launch the free WinDV software. It works great to transfer/convert the recordings of my 8mm/Hi8/Digital8 tapes to my laptop in avi files. The only minor complaint is that the i.Link cable seems loosely plugged into the port of the card (this is why I give a 4 star rate).

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for capturing DV video Dec 21 2009

The laptop I purchased this summer did not come with a firewire, so this card was a necessary part of getting my home video onto DVDs. Some of these cards are very pricey, so I was skeptical when I saw this for such a deal. However, I plugged it in, and it easily located it's own drivers - both for the expresscard, AND for my DV camcorder. The best part? Even with upgrading parts of the old computer, the captured video was often unstable, pixelated, with dropped frames. Not so here! I recognize that this actually has a lot more to do with the new computer, but it was a pleasant surprise to find this expresscard did work just as it should. And it DOES come with it's own cable.

For those who need these details - I use a Windows-based laptop running Vista. I also tried using the video software that Windows includes - Movie Maker to import and edit, DVD Maker to burn. I'm pleased with Movie Maker - simple, streamlined, and fairly intuitive. Not so impressed with DVD Maker, but that's another story!

I do not have an external hard drive, so I can't comment on how well this expresscard handles those. But for DV camcorders, save yourself some $ and buy this!
