All Time Great Live Album!!,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Extraterrestrial Live (Audio CD)
Ever since this came out back in the 1980's I have wanted to pick this up. For some reason I never did. Always something I wanted more or it wasn't in stock when I tried to buy it. I had been given their "Some Enchanted Evening" CD / DVD for Christmas and really liked it so I figured it was time to finally get this. What a great live album. I put this up there with Deep Purple's "Made In Japan" which I conceder the best hard rock / Metal live record of all time. This record has all the hits ( Don't Fear The Reeper, Burning For You, Godzilla, etc) plus great album tracks like Joan Crawford or ETI. Recorded on their "Fire Of Unknown Origin" tour (by the way amazing studio record) the band is just on fire. High energy set. It's funny how BOC never got bigger then they were. They put out some great studio records plus two classic live albums. I remember seeing an interveiw with Lemmy from Motorhead once and he said "It dose not matter how good a band is if their not in the right place at the right time it's not going to happen". That has to be what happened here because Band's have been a lot bigger with a lot less. Unfortunately this record had never been remastered. That being said this CD sounds really good. Especially Concidering it was mastered in the 80's when they were just starting to learn how to master in a digital format. If you like Sabbath, Purple, Rainbow, etc. You might like Blue Oyster Cult. Usually I don't tell people to start with Live albums but this is an exception to the rule.

Under-rated Guitarist,

This review is from: Extraterrestrial Live (Audio CD)
Extraterrestrial LiveA listing of great guitarists usually fails to mention Donald 'Buck Dharma' Roeser of Blue Oyster Cult fame. As the live album "Extraterrestrial Live' progresses, Buck continues to pick up steam, culminating in a blistering rendition of 'Veteran of the Pyschic Wars'. This alone is worth the price of admission. The rest of the CD is filler-free quality stuff; first quarter offers a pumped 'Cities on Flame'; second quarter begins with the bizarre 'Joan Crawford', leads into a capable 'Burnin' For You', and a rockin' cover of the Doors 'Roadhouse Blues'; third quarter features the tounge-in-ckeek menace of 'Black Blade' and 'Godzilla'; and the fourth quarter, the afore mentioned 'Veteran' and the classic 'Don't Fear the Reaper'; all performed with energy and skill, without sacrificing irreverance and fun. As tight as the band is, they play it loose and lively. One of my 10 Great Live! CDs.

IMHO, BOC E.T. Live is simply the best live album I've ever heard. What more can I say?
