I'll confess I have not read the book yet. Matt Dillon owns this movie. He gives us a remarkable rendition of the rough hewn yet somehow adorable young Bukowski. The movie is a rather rambling tale of odd-jobs, cheap hotel sex and kinky alcoholism. The plot goes nowhere, but it does go in some strange places. But that's Bukowski. You watch this movie for the acting and the cinematography which are both recommended. It's like black coffee.

the experience of watching this movie is much like that of reading a book by bukowski.
if you appreciate his work, you will likely dig this film.
matt dillon IS bukowski. i would probably tell all dillon fans as well, that this is not a picture to be missed.
for those who don't know bukowski, it might be a tad slow.
redundant perhaps.
fans of the man, however, should watch this.
they will get it.
