From Publishers Weekly

Medeiros (A Whisper of Roses) pens the ultimate romantic fantasy: a beautiful woman falls in love with a handsome man and they live happily ever after. The challenge is to give the old theme a new twist, and that Medeiros does with a bang. Holly de Chastel, the fairest woman in England, considers her beauty a curse. So far, Holly's trickery and deceit have scared off her suitors, but her father has come up with a foolproof plan to get her wed: a tournament in which the best man wins Holly. Medeiros's already humorous tone turns hilarious when Holly shows herself to the retinue of brave knights?but in disguise as an ugly hag. Only two accept the challenge, and her hand is won by Sir Austyn of Gavenmore, who needs Holly's dowry to restore his home and his honor. He learns to love Holly for her inner beauty, but love is forgotten when Holly's secret is revealed. "Let beauty be your doom" was the curse the faerie queen put upon one of Sir Austyn's ancestors, and every Gavenmore man since has been doomed by beauty. This "happily ever after" is a hard-won battle, but one romantics will relish.

From the Publisher

She was rumored to be the fairest woman in all of England. But Holly de Chastel considered her beauty a curse. She had turned away scores of suitors with various ruses, both fair and foul. Now she was to be the prize in a tournament of eager knights. Holly had no intention of wedding any of them and concocted a plan to disguise her beauty. Yet she didn't reckon on Sir Austyn of Gavenmore. The darkly handsome Welshman was looking for a plain bride and Holly seemed to fit the bill. When he learned that he'd been tricked, it was too late. Sir Austyn was already in love -- and under the dark curse of Gavenmore... --This text refers to the Mass Market Paperback edition.

1.0 out of 5 stars plain dumb and retarded Jun 17 2004
By Ivy
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I'm surprised i saw this book being rated as 5 stars. If possible i would give it a negative 5, i'm surpised it was even published in the first place. Obviously the author has nothing to talk about, this story is based on two dumb idiots who hate eachother because they discovered the other was good looking, i just don't get it. Its like an adult version of the frog prince. Believe me those who think this is good work, theres better ones out there where their conflicts are about more important matters than just beauty. The title says it all for this book, from beginning to the end thats all you'll get, two vain characters who hates eachother because the other ones better looking. They definitely deserve eachother. Poor work, poor story, if there wasn't any graphic sex scences, it'll definitely be a mothergoose tale.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not Medeiros' best Feb 29 2004
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Teresa Medeiros has become one of my favorite authors, but Fairest of Them All is probably my least favorite of her books (so far). The book starts off brilliantly, but eventually the "curse" drags it down, becoming slow and tedious in places, dark and unsettling in others.

Austyn begins as a wonderful hero, simply marvelous, but his belief in the curse causes him to become a tyrant, albeit to protect her from himself in some ways. Holly becomes more likable as the "curse" takes effect and she becomes less shallow. Most of their love scenes are lacking in love, but one that is only sets the stage for heartbreak (a necessary plot element). The climax of the book is very well done however, and the epilogue is one that will leave readers more than content.

It's better than 3 stars when you consider all romances, but I gave it only 3 when I compared it to other Medeiros books. As long as you don't expect this to be one of her best, you'll probably enjoy it. Read it when you don't want one that will keep you reading late into the night.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is wonderful!!! Feb 11 2004
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I have just over the past year or so picked up Teresa Medeiros books, but, after this one, she is my new favorite! It was so funny at parts and at other times it was so heart wrenching! She certainly has a way with words. I truly hope that Carey gets his own book soon! He was such an excellent secondary character! I love Austyn! While a bit suspicious, he is such a great hero! Alot of people were so bent about the whole him locking Holly in the tower thing. This sort of thing more than likely did happen back in the day as Welsh people are known to be superstitious. It just didnt bother me all that much. Anyhow, this book is just so great!!! Holly was a great heroine! I loved how she wasnt afraid of Austyn one bit! I felt so many emotions reading this book, and that is what I look for! The whole first half of the book I was laughing out loud!!! To anyone who is thinking about a good book, this is one of the best that I have read in a long time!
