The Seeker of Truth and his Mother Confessor sweetie are both looking a little worse for the wear after their chime-hunt in Soul of the Fire. To top that off, Lord Rahl finds himself a reluctant prophet with the vision that their cause, the fight for freedom against the Imperial Order, is essentially sunk. (Chalk that up to part of the Wizard's First Rule: people really are stupid.) The two lovers soon find themselves separated, Richard off to the Old World thanks to treacherous Sister of the Dark Nicci, and Kahlan left behind, forced to betray Richard and his prophecy by raising an army to fend off the approaching armies of Emperor Jagang.
Whether it's fair or not, Goodkind will likely get beaten up a bit for visiting the trough once too often, à la Jordan. But fear not: Faith of the Fallen does progress at a good clip, and its conclusion--while by no means a final payout--should satisfy. --Paul Hughes --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Inspiring,

This review is from: Faith of the Fallen (Hardcover)
Well, my taste in literature has probably changed a little bit since I read this, but I will attempt to give you a good review. As far as I am concerned, this book is the only one that stands out after the initial 3 novels of the Sword of Truth series. I frequently find myself annoyed by the author's voice, especially in the later books. It seems like Goodkind uses his books as a medium to preach his own beliefs, so often are the same moral themes stressed and reiterated. While this book is no exception, I didn't mind. Oddly enough, what annoys me in other books just came together right in this one. This is a tale with decent narration backed up by some inspiring ideas. If you liked Temple of the Winds, and the fifth book (the name is escaping me right now), you will definitely enjoy this one. If you didn't, I would still give this one a try, because it is overall a better book. It is less suspenseful but with a stronger message tying it together. Then, don't continue on unless you really need to follow it through to the end to be satisfied. If you didn't like the books before this one, you will probably dislike the books after it, as well. This, in my opinion, is the last highpoint before the series starts to fall seriously downhill, so enjoy this one while you can.

A Classic,
By A Customer
This review is from: Faith of the Fallen (Hardcover)
It is difficult to compare this book to anything that I have read before. It stands out as a masterpiece, by far surpassing any of the other, excellent, books in this series. This book sets an example of how a series of books does not need to turn into an extended deluge of extraneous information that doesn't matter to the characters. The auther managed to deliver a deep plot with an interesting twist keeping me at the edge of my seat the entire time. With a real world element (or two) prominent throughout the entire story, it was easy to reconnect with the characters. I think that though this book does tackle some explosive political issues, anyone, regadless of their political viewpoint, would enjoy this tale of strength in the face of loss, and triumph against the worst that mankind has to offer!
