This film was made within a year of the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 by the German television company and portrays very accurately the emotion and the facts surrounding the erection of the wall and its demise in 1989. I traveled many times from 1973 to 1992 into E. Germany and experienced first-hand the agony and misery created by this ugly division of a people. The film does good justice to the history surrounding the wall.

An Enlightening Historical Perspective, May 1 2000

The fall of the Berlin Wall was one of the most memorable historical events of the 1990's. This video, produced in Germany, contains excellent footage of life in Berlin during the construction of the wall and of the incredible escape attempts that were made during it's existence. One cannot help but recognize the symbolism in the dismantling of the wall; it's as if you're watching communism literally fall apart at the seams. It's also exhilarating to witness the celebrations that took place when people were finally able to climb up onto and over the wall; some with the assistance of guards who were originally instructed to shoot anyone who attempted this maneuver. I am a social studies teacher and share this video with my students each year. They are fascinated by it. I recommend it!

The Berlin Wall, Oct 16 2002

My teacher showed my class this video. I watched it with no previous knowledge of anything it talked about, and now I understand everything. I also know all the numbers (like how long it is, how many watch towers, how many escapes attempted, etc.) and dates (when it was built, torn down, lost power, etc.) It was a great and edifying video that I would recommend to any teacher.
