Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Bestseller Pike's gripping thriller pays homage to Thomas Harris's Hannibal Lecter novels, particularly in the character of FBI agent Kelly Feinman, who fills the Clarice Starling role. An unlikely law-enforcement agent, Kelly was an academic drafted by the bureau as a consultant based on her graduate thesis on mythology. Kelly puts her expertise to use on a particularly savage case, that of a man dubbed "the Acid Killer," who has sent the Feds DVDs of his sadistic murders of women he believes have been unfaithful. Her research leads her to a promising suspect, but her desire to solve the case on her own places her life in jeopardy. Pike (The Cold One) deftly interweaves this plot with the elaborate, Edmund Dantes–like revenge scheme of Matt Connor, a California man who was himself betrayed by the woman he loved. While some of the action sequences involving Kelly strain credibility, the intricate, thoughtful plot offers enough fresh variations on the serial-killer theme to keep readers turning the pages. From Booklist

A deeply troubled FBI agent, still recovering from her hunt for a serial killer, is trying to focus on her new case, the kidnapping of a baby. Somehow, in the course of her investigation, she forms a bond with the kidnapper, and the two become friends. For readers who can suspend disbelief over the notion of an FBI agent and a kidnapper being friends, the novel offers a fresh and suspenseful exploration of love and redemption. David Pitt

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice surprise, Oct 24 2008

When I saw this book in the store it brought back memories of my teen reading days, when I used to devour his thrillers. I could not resist picking up this book in the hopes that his adult novels would be as enjoyable. And boy was I not disappointed! It was very suspenseful and will keep you guessing right through the end. Now I will be looking for any other adult novels he has published.

I have to say that when my son was a youngster , he had us buy every book by Christopher Pike. I read one and found it to be great for youngsters. Then I read Falling. It was great! The chapters always ended in a way that wouldn't let you put the book down. it kept you wondering and it was full of suspense too. I thought it was awesome and can't wait for his next adult novel. Great stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensational, Mar 12 2007
By DarkJewel - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Falling (Hardcover)
I was weary of reading this book at first because it wasnt considered Pike's usual Horror genre.Of course I still had to read it,as anything by Christopher Pike is worthy.

I dont want to spoil this book for anyone who wants to read it,so I'm not going to give away the plot. Only to say that as soon as you begin this book,it is immeaditely interesting and hooks the reader. We learn about Matt Conner and how he plans to fake his own death because his girlfriend has broken his heart.

There is also FBI agent Kelly Fienman who is tracking the strange serial killer named The "Acid Man".

This book brought about many emotions from myself that shocked me.I got very angry with one of the characters and I even cried a little at the end. Mostly though because the book was over.

This book is exactly what is says on the cover~Literary crack cocaine!

I recommend this book to all Christopher Pike fans and anyone who just wants a great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars You can relate to the characters, Mar 24 2007
By Erica L. Olson "BewitchE" - Published on Amazon.com

Having grown up with Christopher Pike books and having read them all, I was once again amazed by his writing.

This book can not be put down, it can not be read chapter by chapter. I devoured the book as quickly as I could.

The book and its characters evoked emotions such emotions: I cried with the betrayl, I felt the revenge and anger.

I've already recommended this book to everyone I know.

I wish there were more Pike books to tide me over, and I have no idea when he'll come out with another.

This was better than any other crime thriller I've read in years, and I'd love to see this become a movie.

The "Acid Man" was a great idea for a serial killer, and even greater to see portrayed in a movie.

Exactly as the reviews said, "Literary Crack Cocaine."

5.0 out of 5 stars A supense novel that will give you chills, July 22 2007
By Jeri Nevermind "loves to read" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Falling (Hardcover)
Pike writes for the young adult market, or rather, has, for years, so you may not have picked up anything by him before.

"Falling" is simply, flat-out, wonderful. I read lots of mysteries. It's hard to surprise me, hard to see a twist in the plot that I haven't already guessed at long before it arrives. "Falling" manages not one, but many twists, all of them shocking, yet all logical.

And here's another bonus: the characters are interesting! Even if the writer can come up with new variations in his book, usually the characters are dull. This is one book that has both a fast moving and intricate plot, and characters that are believable and intriguing from the first page to the last.
