This study of the American working class traces its historical development from post-Civil War times and shows why radical movements have failed to overcome the forces that tend to divide groups of workers from one another. The person who wrote that review is an idiot and clearly wrote it for another book by accident. This is not a novel. It's a a great, smart account about the American working class.

Great for its time but...,

Being written originally in early 70s its a great piece of work, but disappointing for similar type of information based on how the last 30 years has shaped the workforce. I was really hoping for something more up to date, but it was still an excellent read. I am hoping someone will write a more recent version.
