The jumpy, Timbaland-esque beats that kickstart the title track of Fanmail, TLC's long-awaited follow-up to 1994's zillion-selling CrazySexyCool, are a lot more impressively modern than the "computerised" voices that introduce several cuts. Most of the album's production is similarly up to date, displaying the trio's smouldering style to good effect. A few of these songs ("Silly Ho," "No Scrubs," "Unpretty") verge on the anthemic, while Babyface-helmed ballads such as "I Miss You So Much" and "Dear Lie" feel like they're running on automatic pilot. For the most part, though, Fanmail earns its status as a multi-platinum sure thing. --Rickey Wright

4.0 out of 5 stars worth every penny. Aug 15 2004
Format:Audio CD
i was able to find this cd for 3$ at a cash converters near my place. what a lucky find, this cd is worth a lot more then just 3$. even for 14$ i'd buy this cd. what a way to remember left eye...RIP. this may be a surprise to many but my favourite is "i miss you so much", not saying that i didn't love "no scrubs" and "unpretty". buy this cd...to remember the fad where girl groups were in and left eye was still here with us...

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahead of its time July 5 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
When I first bought this album in 1999, it didn't sound like anything else out there. Listening to it today, what's most striking is that it now sounds like something you could hear at almost any time on the radio. I mean that as a compliment. TLC proved with this album that they didn't follow trends, they created them. It's a shame they can never make music anymore, but they did leave behind impressive albums, like this one. "No Scrubs" didn't sound like anything on radio at the time; now it's almost impossible to not find a ripoff of that song on the radio. "Unpretty" was surprisingly inspiring and another huge hit for the trio. My favorite song is probably "I'm Good at Being Bad" simply because it is nasty and completely tuneful at the same time.

This is an outstanding album that was ahead of the curve. It sounds like it could have been made today, and it is that very thing that will ensure that TLC's legacy will never be forgotten.

FanMail [EXPLICIT LYRICS]~ TLC is a decent album with good lyrics. However the lyrics seem to have been written in an hour and are sloppy and poorly written. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars could have been..
This album has its hits, and I am happy that Chilli finally got to sing lead in some songs. It just does not touch the quality of crazy sexy cool. Not bad, but not great either.

I personally only like two tracks on this CD. But, I like them A LOT. If you're a huge fan of this group, you'll probably listen to the whole CD>
