A Happy Ending, Aug 12 2011
By Carolyn Goodart "page turner" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Farewell, Miss Zukas (Paperback)
After becoming a fan of cozy mystery series, I decided to google "librarian mysteries," being a librarian myself. And that's how I discovered Miss Zukas! I read all the books in the series and was waiting for the next one, when I learned on the author's blog that there wouldn't be anymore. I was disappointed, yet hopeful, and am so glad she gave us this last one. Although the ending is bittersweet, it feels wonderful knowing how beloved Miss Zukas is by all of us who know her. She is a shining example of the library profession and an inspiration for her bravery and sensible style of living. She's a loyal friend and acts with integrity. This series has been full of wonderful stories, and this one does not disappoint. I was especially touched with her tender handling of family matters and appreciation of her Lithuanian heritage. But best of all was her skillful, no-nonsense navigation of wedding planning. The wedding itself is full of surprises and spot on. So now I'm waiting for "Miss Zukas Returns!"

A Lovely Cozy for Librarians & every cozy lover, Aug 25 2011
By Ellen Rappaport - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Farewell, Miss Zukas (Paperback)
Farewell Miss Zukas was well worth the wait. I love this series as a librarian and a lover of cozy mysteries. The dynamics between Miss Zukas/Helma and Ruth is a hoot! Ruth is just the epitomy of a fiercefully fun friend and a total contrast to Helma. Love her antics.
Helma's respect for her elderly Aunt Em and her Lituwanian heritage brings us closer to the family dynamics in this story. The way the author/Jo Dereske tied up all the loose ends made me realize that this truly is a farewell to the Miss Zukas series. I had been hoping for a comeback of sorts but the ending appears to be the grande finale.
Thank-you Jo Dereske for taking it upon yourself to complete this marvelous heart warming series by becoming your own publisher. Also a personal thanks for the book format. The print was as large as any hard cover book.
Wonderful series. I've read all the books in the Miss Zukas series and will re-read them. I highly recommend this lovely series and when you do read it-please take note of Ruth. She is one zany character.

Farewell, Miss Zukas!, Aug 10 2011
By Irish - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Farewell, Miss Zukas (Paperback)
This was an excellent "cozy," easily read in one sitting. In fact, it was hard to put down once you started it. There were parallel story threads in this book, one being Helma Zukas's recent engagement with the police chief and the other being Helma trying to help figure out what happened when a thief died stealing the box that her aunt's father had carved out of Lithuanian wood. Did her aunt kill the thief? Was what so valuable in the now missing box? How can she keep her mother from overtaking the wedding plans while solving these and other problems?
Miss Zukas is a wonderful person to get to meet, growing more personable with each of the books. I strongly recommend you read all 12 of the books in this series. The author does a marvelous job in creating the main and supporting characters, from Helma to her artist friend Ruth, Chief Gallant, Boy Cat Zukas, and others. As the series progresses, Helma Zukas, becomes so much more than just the stereotype of a librarian. Her "thin as a silver dime" voice will live on, even as the series comes to a bittersweet end with everyone promising to live "happily ever after."
