Book Description

If you love fashion dolls, this book is for you! Fourth in a popular series of how-to books, this book gives step-by-step instructions on how to transform both mass-produced 11 ½” fashion dolls and the new larger (15” – 16”) contemporary fashion dolls into one-of-a-kind pieces of art. Author Jim Faraone focuses his fourth book on fantasy, fairies, and enchanted creatures and shows readers how to create hairstyles, make-up, and bodies for original designs. This book also features over 250 full-color photographs showcasing talented artists who have created their own whimsical fashion doll makeovers. This book is not only informational, it is inspiring!

About the Author

The winner of two crystal trophies at the 2000 BMAA Awards from Barbie® Bazaar, Jim Faraone, is an avid doll collector with a collection of over 3,500 dolls of all kinds. He is not just a doll collector but also collects paper dolls, paper toys, 40’s, 50’s and 60’s plastic dollhouse furniture, children’s aluminum cookware and accessories, celebrity-autographed photos and more as time goes on.

A respected artist, Jim has had his artwork featured twice in the UFDC (United Federation of Doll Clubs) publication Doll News. His award winning pieces of artwork have also been featured souvenirs at many conventions and has been on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Jim’s articles on the BARBIE® doll, advertising dolls, celebrity dolls, fashion doll makeovers and paper dolls have appeared numerous times in several magazines

including Miller’s, Contemporary Doll Collector and Doll Reader. He has also covered many of the various doll and paper doll conventions in magazines and on the internet.

Jim is internationally known in the collecting field and is actively involved with many of the conventions. He organizes and runs many of the Artist’s Galleries, which feature the new work of professional and non-professional artists. Jim is an avid believer in supporting the well-deserved artists and giving those people the recognition that they deserve. Jim has been commended several times for his strong determination in giving the artists a place in the spotlight. He has run several workshops and seminars on painting techniques, paper doll artwork, getting published and the recreation of the fashion doll, taking each budding artist step-by-step through the trials and tribulations of creating.

Jim and his collectibles have appeared in several magazines and newspapers around the world, including the front cover of USA Today. His recreated fashion dolls have also appeared on several television news segments, as well as in magazines and newspapers. He likes variety, so he creates everything from Haute Couture ensembles, caricature dolls, vintage suits, to hand-beaded and sequined evening gowns. His newest line consists of fantasy creations and his “Insect” line, which turns the fashion doll into various types of insects, has been a big hit as everyone is now starting their own “bug” collection of Faraone Originals. His intricate beadwork has astounded many collectors who own one of his detailed creations in their collection. All of his full-skirted creations have beneath the flowing skirts, tiny lace trimmed panties, garter belt with rhinestone “clasps,” and stockings. He enjoys adding the small detail work on his creations. Even a few fashion doll manufacturers have praised his work and creations.

Jim Faraone has made his hobby a lifetime infatuation and the joy; comfort and friendships he’s made over the years are always treasured. He truly enjoys hearing from collectors and artists around the world. 5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful dolls and great tips and tricks to create your own, Aug 15 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Fashion Doll Makeovers (Paperback)
That is what you will find in the latest edition of Jim Faraone's 4th Fashion Doll makeovers. The book is filled with beautiful shots of fashion doll makeovers, bios of the artists and best of all, in the back, tips and tricks on how to do some of the things pictured. Enhancing molded hair creations, beaded hair, create a molded mohawk style, the making of fairy wings, fabric wings, appliques and gloves are all explained with clear, step by step pictures. This book is a fine addition to the series. With each book you can learn more and more about creating your own makeovers. The information is also helpful if you just want to make presentable all those poor dolls that your daughter decided to give a hair cut to.

If you aren't into making over your own dolls you can still enjoy the pictures of the beautiful dolls created by some truly talented artists.
