Book Description

Sep 12 2008
Presented and written by a leading fashion photographer, and serving as a practical self-teaching course, this book offers a series of tutorials designed to build a beginning fashion photographer's experience and get him or her started on a rewarding career. It begins by acquainting readers with the work of trend-setting photographers in the fashion industry, and points out how trends are controlled by magazines and editors. It also presents tutorials that deal with cameras and their controls, and offers advice on buying film cameras, digital cameras, and camera equipment and accessories. The following chapters and their tutorials instruct on lighting, setting up a studio, creating professional quality pictures both in studio and on location settings, approaching and working with fashion model agencies, developing a portfolio, selling one's skills to the fashion industry, working effectively with magazines and advertising agencies, and becoming a photographer's assistant as a valuable entrée to the fashion industry. The enlightening text is supplemented with more than 250 color photos.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good introduction of Fashion Photography Dec 15 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Fashion photography is a big independent department in the photography world and definitely is a work of collaboration. Besides photographer and his assistant, there are fashion designer, wardrobe stylist, model, make up artist, hair stylist, and very often the art director involved to produce a body of work. This book can't tell you every single detail in the fashion photo industry but it is a good introduction to all aspects related. "Fashion Photography Course" isn't aimed to the veteran professionals but to photography students, new photographers who are interested to be parts of this glamorous genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it... Aug 7 2009

There's nothing more dissapointing than a book that talks about lighting, shows great pictures, but leaves you with no clue of how the shots were created.. This is not one of those.. It provides a manual guide to acheiving desired looks and effects. Positioning of lights, flags, reflectors, and everything you need to recreate the picture shown. I like the authors intro and views on fashion and photography, and the soul searching is definetely something I've found myself doing as I invest in gear, invest my time, and push myself with no immediate return.. Highly recommended..

by Eliot Siegel (Author)

RATING: 5 stars

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: After 30 minutes of browsing through hundreds of photography books in Borders, I was able to find this book Fashion Photography Course. I was pleasantly surprised as i did not know BARRON'S would publish such informative photography books.

Well after 10 minutes of sifting through the book, I was hooked. The structure of the information was very intuitive. Each showcased image details the Objectives of the main teaching points of the tutorial and what is required. The tutorial is clearly defined in the page, following Exercises to practice the newly learned lighting setup with reference to the Feature Boxes and Diagrams. Amazing amazing amazing job developing this book.

PROS:
-Easy reading
-Structured references
-Majority of showcased images are of high quality and execution
-One stop shop book about photography technique and how to penetrate the photography business.

CONS: None!

CONCLUSION: If you need a good quick reference photography book, I highly recommend this book. I often refer to this book before every shoot as a refresher course to lighting my subject and background. Check out my work at [...] and let me know if this book helped me or not. You be the judge.
