Take a look at the Dove website and you will see for yourself the shocking revelation of the fashion/modeling industry and the "perfect" faces they portray to us as being "the norm". Ben Barry is succeeding in modifying that trend with his personal campaign to involve diverse models in the fashion industry. After seeing the new Dove campaign on TV with older women, women of different sizes and color, it is obvious the fashion world is listening to Ben Barry and putting his "radical" ideas into action.

Fashioning Reality is compelling and sincere. The David and Goliath similarity is spellbinding and inspirational. I couldn't put it down.

Part I deals with his idea of making social change in the fashion world by calling and emailing the who's who of the fashion world. Using his business savvy and his diplomatic style, he explains to companies, that using non-traditional models is a must for today's world and will improve their bottom line. He goes into personal detail about the ups and down of starting a business when you are 14 and have no contacts, capital or even a fax machine! I was completely captivated reading about the incredibly interesting people he meets along the way and how he handled all of this at such a young age.

Part Two delves into Ben's model of entrepreneurship, The Balanced Contract. He introduces us to several other entrepreneurs and their rise to success. The gem of this part and the key to Ben's success, are the 10 questions he asks himself on a regular basis and the answers he gives are invaluable.

These are tools that will equip anyone starting out. Read Ben's book and you will be motivated into achieving your dreams.

I believe it is an essential read for anyone wanting to start a business. It will boost your confidence in your abilities at any age. It is extremely motivating, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is about to embark on any new initiative in their lives.

I'm normally not the type to read a biography or a book on entrepreneuring, but I found Fashioning Reality to be not only informative but refreshingly entertaining. This book divulges some of the fashion industry's harshest realities; as consumers who buy in to fashion, it's important that we are aware of these realities. It's also a great story of how ideas can be put in to action to create positive social change.

I also really enjoyed the interviews with other young entrepreneurs, which stressed the valuable resource in young minds, and how businesses and industries can actually profit and thrive through the helping, instead of at the expense, of others.

Fashioning Reality is raw, honest, amusing, insightful, and a great read. We need more people like Ben Barry out there taking steps to promote diversity in the fashion industry -- it just makes sense from a business standpoint and a social one. I would 100% recommend this book!

It was only a short time ago that I discovered who Ben Barry was. But I can truthfully say that I am glad that I have become acquainted with his quest for influencing the popular perceptions of beauty in the media. He is amazing because he is a man who is fighting the worlds' perceptions of how women should look. Many women around the world are probably trying to do this but I think it is very profound that a man in the fashion world has taken it upon himself to start a change. As a sometimes insecure woman myself, he has given me hope that some men out there do understand what its like to be a woman in these Vain times; and because of that I feel less alone and more uplifted because he has broken the barrier and thought outside the box. I support his efforts whole heartedly, I wish him the best of luck in all of his endeavors. And I hope he will continue to teach the Corporate Fashion world a much needed and long awaited lesson.

The book follows Ben Barry from an early age to the present where this 24 year old entrepeneur has undertaken a unique and often barrier facing agency in the modelling world. We follow Ben as his innocent and naive pursuit of changing the face of fashion turns into a passion and ultimate long term goal. The book is written in a very clear and chronological order allowing the reader to follow Ben along his journey of creating his agency. He does not shy from disclosing some early mistakes. We also find ourselves rooting for this undergog with every success which takes him one step closer to becoming an in demand business. Barry supporting new age ethical businesses, devotes the second half of the book to featuring entrepeneurs who have thought outside the box similar to the Ben Barry agency. This book is essential for anyone involved in new-age business, but also for those adopting a new generation of thinking.

As a designer, I believe that Barry's position on the ideal of beauty is pivotal to our ever-changing society. For decades women of all ages, at some point in their lives, aspire to look like the women portrayed in various fashion spreads and runway shows. Millions of women everywhere have at such a time tried to do something to change the way they looked, be it a diet or plastic surgery. It is about time that society's view of beaty be destroyed and replaced by one that is more natural. Barry's book, and agency are but only the beginning of this revolutionary change. Ofcourse there will be great debate regarding the subject. Barry sends a global message to give the world reason to think about the ideal of beauty, individually. On a personal base, Barry is a highly intellectual individual yet grounded by his strong values. I look forward to more from the agency and from the man himself.
