3.0 out of 5 stars Weird complicated recipes, Jun 15 2006

The author clearly seems to know her stuff and has complete information on cooking times for all of the types of crockpots out there.

But, I found the recipes weird, hard to use, or uninspiring.

She recommends food release spray or lecitin for nearly every recipe to make clean up easy.

I'm reluctant to add this stuff. I don't know if all books recommend this step.

You either need to add an ingredient 30 minutes before the food is done, or blend something, or put something in another dish and put that in the crockpot (mine is too small for that)

I just want to throw some food in a pot and find a dinner ready when I get back from work.

Pretty much the only recipes that would work that way are the bean dishes. (and even then, you really should pre-soak the beans) I can't really find anything I want to cook in here and will look for another book

5.0 out of 5 stars This Cookbook is a Great Blessing!, Feb 3 2006
By Bonita - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Fast Cooking in a Slow Cooker: A Slow Cooker Vegetarian Cookbook (Spiral-bound)
I bought this cookbook about 3 weeks ago. I've had a slow cooker for a long time and it stayed inside the cabinet most of the time. Well, after trying some recipes from this cookbook, I bought a new and bigger slow cooker! And it's kept on the kitchen counter, ready to be used, anytime!

This book has a lot of delicious recipes and it's format is so user-friendly. Most of the recipes have the option of making either a small or large recipe. The instructions are very clear and it tells you how long it takes to cook depending on what type of slow cooker you have (it gives instructions on how to find out what type of slow cooker you have). I love the tips at the end of each recipe. This section tells you if this dish can be placed in the cooker ahead of time but cooked later (by using an appliance timer). It also gives tips on reheating plus a whole lot more!!!

It includes breakfast items, entrees, bean dishes, vegetables, soups, gravies, sauces, breads (yes, breads!), and desserts.

I tried one of the bread recipes the other day and it was such a big hit with my kids, there was not a crumb left for my husband to taste! I think this won't be the last time that I'll be using my slow cooker to make bread.

If you love using a slow cooker and you are a vegetarian, this is a must-have cookbook for you. If you don't love using a slow cooker, this cookbook will help you change your mind!

Happy Slow Cooking!

BTW, the author (JoAnn Rachor) has another great cookbook, "Of These Ye May Freely Eat" that you might want to try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Veggie slow cooking at its best!, Mar 12 2006
By D. Donovan, Editor/Sr. Reviewer "California B... - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Fast Cooking in a Slow Cooker: A Slow Cooker Vegetarian Cookbook (Spiral-bound)
There are plenty of slow cooker cookbooks on the market; but only a few vegetarian guides: JoAnn Rachor's FAST COOKING IN A SLOW COOKER EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR: A SLOW COOKER VEGETARIAN COOKBOOK focuses on the heart of vegetarian cookery - entrees and vegetable dishes - with a bow to breads and desserts - and will delight any who always look for appropriate vegetarian main dishes. From vegetable lasagna and a lentil loaf to a eggplant garlic bake, dishes are accompanied by color photos and clear charts of ingredients; plus an unusual format which offers conversions for smaller to larger recipes with yields from 3 to 6 cups. These features make for an outstanding reference especially recommended for home cooks, with lay-flat spiral binding.
