4.0 out of 5 stars Complex Saga, Jun 1 2010
By JFBeilman "Bibliophile" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Fathom Volume 3 (Paperback)
I just finished reading volume 2 and volume 3 of Fathom last night. Overall, the three volumes of Fathom that I have are very entertaining. They present an overarching storyline that deals with Aspen, the protagonist, discovering her true heritage among a secret race of underwater huminiods, the Blue, and the worlds of the Blue and the Humans colliding with exciting and violent results for both races. In volume 3, the Blue finally reveal themselves to the rest of the world in order to attempt a peaceful resolution to the hostilities. However, this complicates Aspen's already complicated life as her cover is completely blown among the surface dwellers, which makes it impossible for her to return to her anonymous life in San Deigo. There is even a scene in this volume that is reminescent of the humans' predjudice of freaks that is also depicted in the X-men comics. The reason I gave this volume four stars is because of the uncertain ending, however it doesn't detract from what is a Star Wars-like story featuring complex 3-dimensional characters, who are neither totally bad or good, like in real life.

So glad they finally put this out! The pages are slick and glossy, the art is beautiful and the story just as good. This book collects from Fathom 2008:
