Buy 883476028965 instead.,
By Tyler Foster - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Feast 3 Pack (DVD)
As anyone can clearly tell from the reviews, this bundle (which is three existing DVDs shrink-wrapped together with a sheet of paper bearing the "cover" image rubber cemented to the front -- not a space-saver) only contains the rated cuts of FEAST II and FEAST III. However, TWC has seen fit (finally) to fix this decision by quietly releasing a new DVD. The revised set comes in a single, regular-width DVD case, and all three discs are the Unrated versions. The UPC for that version is 883476028965, and it can be found at many Wal-Marts (right now anyway) for $10. If you want a space-saving, all-Unrated way to get the FEAST movies for cheap, track down that one and pass on this one.

Review based on the actual movies, not the "unrated" content.,

Attention FEAST fans! Allow me to clear up any confusion that you might have about this collection. If you don't know by now, this box set has false advertising on the front package. The only "unrated" version here is the original FEAST and nothing else. Both of it's sequels are the R rated versions, despite the front of the package claims otherwise. I would imagine that most of these sets are exactly the same, no matter what store you buy them from. To say that I feel ripped off is the understatement of the year! Finding the FEAST II and FEAST III "unrated" versions is simple enough (just buy them individually here on Amazon) but they're relatively hard to come buy in local stores. When I bought this box set, I thought that I had just stumbled across a nice little find here. Three "unrated" FEAST movies for a decent price. Boy, was I ever wrong! When the original FEAST movie came out, I made a review for it here on Amazon right away. I thought it was an amazing film. After a while, I decided to deleted that review in hopes that one day a box set of all the FEAST movies would come out. That way, I could give a proper review for each film released. Well, I guess I can do that now more or less with this set. Putting my problems with the false advertising aside, I still think this is a pretty good collection considering the low price. Normally, I try to pursue the "unrated" versions of any movie that I want as a part of my ever growing film collection. Yet with the FEAST movies, it seems that the "unrated" sequels aren't as easy to come by like most Horror DVD's these days. I already made the mistake of buying the R rated version of SLOPPY SECONDS when it first came out. I sold that copy right off the bat (for a number or reasons, mainly because it wasn't "unrated"), only to make the same mistake yet again a few years later with this box set! Well, I'm giving up! I just added this set into my collection because it's good enough. Alow me to explain why. Let me start off by saying this. The original FEAST movie is the best out of the three, and it's the only one I would actually recommend to anyone. When I first saw the film FEAST, I was blown away by how well it was executed for a "direct to DVD" release! It's a great Horror movie over all and I think it's one of the best from the 2000's era. The second two films aren't anywhere near as good, but they do have their own charm and moments of appeal. Here's the break down of the FEAST trilogy. FEAST The basic premise of this movie is a simple one to understand. Monsters come out of nowhere in the middle of the desert and attack a group of people in a sleazy bar. End of story. With a movie like this, you don't need anymore story than that. What makes this film work so well is the wicked sense of humor, insane amounts of gore and great acting from everyone on set! We even get an unexpected appearance of Henry Rollins and Jason Mewes from the JAY AND SILENT BOB movies. Also, the movie has that classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD vibe, in terms of people being forced into a bad situation, all under one roof. Add that on top of some amazing cinematography and a truly inspired film script, and what you have here is a strong Horror movie from the 2000's era! Without a doubt, this one is the best out of the entire series. FEAST 2 : SLOPPY SECONDS Okay, here we go. There's a running gag in the Horror community about this movie's subtitle being it's "kiss of death." Think about it. FEAST II sure is sloppy and it sure is second! The basic story line of this sequel follows the events of the original film, only this time the monsters pursue the survivors into a local town. Add some new characters and what else is there to say? End of story. One of the biggest problems right off the bat with this movie is the low production. Sure, the first movie wasn't LORD OF THE RINGS in terms of scope, but it at least had enough polish to make it enjoyable! SLOPPY SECONDS begins okay enough with a bloody and unexpected first half, yet it falls apart near the second portion of the movie. Also, some of the CGI effects and blue screens looked down right awful! That was something the first movie didn't even mess with. Which is why SLOPPY SECONDS isn't anywhere near as good of a film. When I first watched this sequel, I hated it. I thought it was beyond awful! I sold it because my copy wasn't "unrated" and because it was so bad! Over the years I've become a little more forgiving of it's short comings. It does have it's moments. In the end, I think it's an okay sequel. FEAST 3 : THE HAPPY FINISH Once again, the movie has a subtitle that becomes it's own "kiss of death." This movie is nowhere near the "happy finish" that I would have liked to have seen. I'm kind of hard pressed to decide on which sequel I dislike the most, SLOPPY SECONDS or THE HAPPY FINISH. The first sequel was okay enough, but some moments were just a little boring in the middle. The third movie isn't really boring, but it does have it's fair share of stupid moments. The bad CGI effects and blue screen moments aren't used as much this time around (thank goodness), but it still falls victim to some cheap effects here and there. The story line once again follows directly from it's predecessor, only now the survivors here are trying to escape the city. End of story. The cinematography is okay and some moments in the movie reflect the energy and spirit of the original. There are a few shocking and laugh out loud moments, which is a plus if you ask me. Also, the make up special effects are really cool during a few parts. In the end, I think THE HAPPY FINISH is better than SLOPPY SECONDS but just barely. Over all, this is a pretty good collection. Sure, part II and part III aren't the "unrated" versions but that shouldn't hold anyone back from this box set. The movies are really bloody and gory anyways, so I no longer think it's a problem. It just kinda' makes you wonder why the sequels are so hard to come by in terms of "unrated" copies? Most Horror DVD's these days come out "unrated" anyways. In the end, I think this would make a wonderful gift for someone who is a Horror fan and who hasn't seen any of the FEAST movies. The first movie is the only one that's "unrated" and in my opinion, that's the only one that matters! I just see the other two films as an added bonus. I've said my bit. Over and out. |
