Product Description

From Amazon

Featuring more than 70 stories collected as part of "the Feathers project," Feathers Brush My Heart is a comforting book for women in times of loss. Each story, ranging in length from a couple of paragraphs to several pages, speaks of some sort of communication between mothers and daughters; what they have in common is that in each case, the mother has already passed away. In every other way, each story is entirely different.

The women who contributed stories are of all ages and income brackets. Some write movingly of abuse and dysfunction during their childhoods, while others pen with equal grace tales of close, loving relationships with their parents. Some gifts are as simple as finally learning to make their mom's beloved peanut butter fudge. More complex tales show repeated instances of protection and strongly felt presences in the midst of physical danger.

Dreams, impressions, and objects all figure strongly, and many women write of the particular significance of a special flower, ribbon, vase, or article of clothing. Author Sinclair Browning ties this collection together with gentle musings and recommended readings, along with a few short stories of her own. And while the details vary, the core message remains consistent: those who love us are never truly gone, and contact is always available if you remain open to the possibilities. --Jill Lightner

From Publishers Weekly

Exploring mother-daughter relationships on another level, Feathers Brush My Heart: True Stories of Mothers Touching Their Daughters' Lives After Death gathers stories from women who have been contacted by their departed mothers. Editor Sinclair Browning (a mystery series writer) spoke with more than 70 women from various backgrounds about visits, signs and warnings they've received from their deceased moms. The anecdotes have more of a touchy-feely bent than a science fiction one: Linda Blanchard saw her mother as an angel in a dream and Carolyn Niethammer felt her mother's arms keep her safe when she was hit by a drunk driver.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dedicated to my mother .....and yours, Sep 9 2002
By
Linda Hartley (Arizona, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Feathers Brush My Heart: True Stories Of Mothers Touching Their Daughters'Lives (Hardcover)
The words in the opening dedication page, For my mother...and yours...what a lovely way to enter this gift of love, to our hearts, from all of the hearts who shared their experiences after the loss of their mothers. The experiences were all unique and wonderful affirmations that our loved ones are always willing to be near us in "whatever way is meaningful" to us. So it seems although the experiences were very different, according to each authors perspective and interpretation... I found all of them to be exquisitely profound and beautiful! The stories that resonated with my own experience were the ones in which nature played a large part...especially hummingbirds and butterflies that appear at special moments, and feel comforting, and really are signs from our loved ones,as I experienced these and many more wonderful signs from my son and then my mother...and we are always connected by our love for our love never ends.As I walked past the books at [local store] to see if they had Angel Cards (they did)...I know that all of the ladies who shared their stories believe and understand what I mean when I say that "this book found me!" Linda Hartley, author of "Letters from Heaven" Website

This review is from: Feathers Brush My Heart: True Stories Of Mothers Touching Their Daughters'Lives (Hardcover)
Seventy women from various backgrounds openly share their personal stories of "gifts" received from their Mothers after they passed on. The tales are heartwarming, comforting, emotional and above all dominated by a common denominator; the power of a Mother's everlasting love. A wonderful message to pass on to any relative, friend or loved one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grief Relief for Everyone!, April 25 2002
By
Dr. Sherry M. Bell (Sedona, Arizona United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Feathers Brush My Heart: True Stories Of Mothers Touching Their Daughters'Lives (Hardcover)
I found Feathers on the New Release table in the bookstore only two weeks after my mother died suddenly. The stories by the courageous women who share their experiences and contacts with their mothers has helped me tremendously as I stumble through my own grief. I had a very powerful experience just five hours after my mother died that shook my confidance in my own sanity. I mentioned it to two close friends who gave me discreet looks of distress for my mental state and disbelief. Fortunately, after reading Feathers, my experience was validated for me, now I can see this event for the blessing that it was. No one but my mother would have known how important the message was to me.

One thing I especially appreciated was that the stories were presented in a religion-neutral way, meaning that the author wasn't pushing any particular view. She allowed each person to express whatever was important to them at the time. Being more aware of the many different ways I can initiate and maintain a connection with my mother is the most helpful information I could recieve. I have already sent six copies to friends who are in mouring for their own mothers. Anyone who has lost someone close to them will benefit from the awareness that develops. This book is a public service to anyone in mourning.
