This is an excellent book, by turn poetic, personal, and scientific. It pays due attention to the spiritual and aesthetic values of feathers to human beings, as well as to the very exciting developing scientific understanding of the evolution of feathers; nothing to do with flight, it appears, but more with insulation and possibly ornamentation. The photographs are disappointing; poorly reproduced in monochrome, they drag the rating down from 5 stars to 4; surely feathers, of all natural phenomena, deserve colour reproduction? An excellent buy nonetheless.
