5.0 out of 5 stars Get charmed with Charm School July 12 2003
Format:Audio CD
If you like alternative music along the lines of (say) They Might Be Giants, then this is a GREAT album to look into. The lyrics cover a good variety of areas, including throwing furniture off of a room to watch it break on the ground below; the meaning of life; aging (I guess) and some less obvious messages. The music is very simple, but in a highly complementary manner to the singing, lyrics, and feel of the album. I look forward to the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Jun 14 2003
Format:Audio CD
There is no other way to describe this music. It is simply perfect. The expressive vocals flip flop easily from hints of sadness to complete glee. The lyrics can stand by themselves as pure poetry. Once you get a small little dose, it's darn near impossible to not banish the rest of your music collection for a few weeks, just so you can devote you're entire listening soul to this band.
To sum up this rambling up in just a few short words:
They're better then Chimps!

5.0 out of 5 stars There's hope for music after all April 12 2004
Format:Audio CD
I originally discovered Bishop Allen's Charm School c.d at the library. I played it once, thought it was good, found myself wanting to listen to it again and fell in love with the whole album. The last time i liked every song on an album was at least ten years ago. (That was Voice of the Bee Hive's Honey Lingers). If you think that today's music has made a mockery of everything we babyboomers hold sacred, you should listen to this album. I'm 46, believe that the best music happened in MY ERA, BY GOLLY! but Bishop Allen has proven there are still great musicians, you just have to look harder than you used to. A true "appeals to everyone" album. I am in love with Bonnie Karin's sweet voice.
