5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining novel - perfect for a quick vacation read, Jan 20 2007
By E. B. MULLIGAN "Bronwyn" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Feel of Forever (Paperback)

This was a very nice book. Felicity, nickname Fliss, is 26 and owns & operates her mother's art gallery very successfully. Sadly, she has not gotten over a brief affair she had eight years ago. She has a loving family and loving friends but has not shared with them that she is a lesbian, which leads to periodic matchups with single guys. Into her life returns her older lover now a famous newscaster and the intrigue begins.
The author delivers another successful novel that is pleasure to read and the writing flows nicely. The last two chapters are a rollercoaster that will leave you guessing or gasping at every page. You really get a sense of the locale where Fliss and her family/friends reside.

I enjoyed the author's novel Gold Fever very much and look forward to reading her other novels -

4.0 out of 5 stars Short and to the Point, Jan 19 2007
By Bett Norris - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Feel of Forever (Paperback)
I've read several of author Lyn Denison's books, and so bought this one based on past experience. Settings in Australia, always a winner with me, and story lines that are believable and interesting.
The Feel of Forever is good, and I enjoyed it. I expected more, however. It seems too brief; 181 pages rush by and it reads more like a novella, or a long short story. This is more of a complaint than a criticism. I liked this book; I simply wanted more of it.
A romantic and somewhat exotic setting, an island off the coast of Queensland, is given short shrift. The father who owns a fishing vessel also seems sketchy, as though more could have been made of this. Younger sister, just eighteen, an artist, has one interesting scene with main character Fliss Devon. Her mysterious past, the breakup that hardened her heart, gets too much play, and yet not enough.
The crisis at the end seems a little contrived, because we haven't been introduced to these characters and so can't care about them enough.

I think that's the problem. There's not enough of everything in this book. Not enough character development, not enough exploration of Bailey Macrae, not enough of how lonely and isolated Fliss has been, not enough setting, not really enough plot.

All that said, I still enjoyed this novel. I'll read the next one from Lyn Denison. This author has built a fan base and should be careful not to disappoint them.

5.0 out of 5 stars True Love Never Dies, Jan 17 2007
By K. Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Feel of Forever (Paperback)
One can't help but fall in love with the characters in this book. Of course, that's what a reader comes to expect when picking up a book by Lyn Denison. In this case, it's especially true.

First, we have the tragic character of Felicity Devon, know as Fliss to her friends. Fliss is a late 20-something, deeply-closeted loner who still lives at home with her family. Her mother died several years prior and Fliss took over running the family art studio. Her father had been deeply depressed and only recently rejoined the world of the living as he started dating again. His girlfriend's son is also dating Fliss' younger sister. With all the romance in the air, Fliss is frightened beyond words when her first and only love comes to town.

The woman in question is Bailey Macrae, a well-known and respected news personality. Years earlier, Bailey left Fliss, got married, and had a son. Her son died and Bailey nearly went loony. Everyone in town was excited to see Bailey show up to house sit for her brother. Everyone, that is, except Fliss.

Fliss doesn't know how to handle the conflicting feelings running around in her mind. Part of her wants to hurt Bailey and tell her to leave. Part of her wants Bailey to come back into her life. As the story unfolds, the reader learns why Bailey left and feels the pains and joys as these women reconcile their past with their present. The question is... Will they have a future?
