Product Description

From Amazon.com

Like a soda pop left open all night, Bueller seems to have lost its effervescence over time. Sure, Matthew Broderick is still appealing as the perennial truant, Ferris, who fakes his parents out and takes one memorable day off from school. Jeffrey Jones is nasty and scheming as the principal who's out to catch him. Jennifer Grey is winning as Ferris's sister (who ends up making out in the police station with a prophetic vision of Charlie Sheen). But there's a definite sense that this film was of a particular time frame: the '80s. It's still fun, though. There's Ferris singing "Twist and Shout" during a Chicago parade, and a lovely sequence in the Art Institute. But don't get it and expect your kids to love it the way you did. Like it or not, it's yours alone. --Keith Simanton

Description

Ferris Bueller. Larger than life. Blessed with a magical sense of serendipity. He's a model for all those who take themselves too seriously. A guy who knows the value of a day off. Ferris Bueller's Day Off chronicles the events in the day of a rather magical young man, Ferris (Matthew Broderick). One spring day, toward the end of his senior year, Ferris gives into an overwhelming urge to cut school and head for downtown Chicago with his girl (Mia Sara) and his best friend (Alan Ruck), to see the sights, experience a day of freedom and show that with a little ingenuity, a bit of courage and a red Ferrari, life at 17 can be a joy.

This movie is such a cult classic and everytime I watch it, it become more and more funny. It's about Ferris, who decides to take a day off of school and the lengths he will go to get away with it. His girlfriend and best friend tag along for the ride. This movie is priceless no matter how you look at it!

4.0 out of 5 stars The essential high school comedy..., July 1 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Ferris Bueller's Day Off (DVD)
Out of the tons of high school comedies that have been released over the years, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" truly stands out. Its lasting quality and universal appeal make it a modern classic in a sense. This is just one of those great movies that you can watch any time and just have a blast watching it.

In this 1986 John Hughes-directed film, Matthew Broderick plays to perfection Ferris Bueller, an incredibly popular high school senior. With his final year of high school winding down, Ferris decides to take a day off, faking illness with ease. What ensues is the ideal day off for any teenager. Ferris, along with his girl friend and pal Cameron, makes sure that his day off--his 10th absence of the marking period--is worth it. The film has a timeless quality: I just recently purchased this DVD and the movie seems brand new.

Part of that may be due to Paramount's vibrant transfer of the film. Presented in its original widescreen ratio, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" looks great with very crisp images. Unfortunately, since this is Paramount, the only extra included is a track of audio commentary (a rarity on Paramount releases) from director John Hughes. A trailer certainly would have been nice, but the commentary at least is a treat. Short on extras but big on fun, the DVD release of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" is recommended.
