Product Description

From Amazon.com

Well before the release of this solid but slender debut, the Brooklyn-based Yeah Yeah Yeahs were the subject of so much international press hype that the White Stripes were probably taking quick, nervous peeks over their shoulders. But while Fever to Tell captures a lot of what’s good about the trio--mostly the caterwauling energy of their club shows--it also exposes the band’s limitations. Singer Karen O is the undeniable star here, contorting her voice from a primal P.J. Harvey growl to the pre-orgasmic purr of Chrissie Hynde. Nick Zinner chops, slashes, and torpedoes his guitar around, across, and straight at O’s voice, while drummer Brian Chase delivers a suitably raw trash-can thump. There are a lot of cool sounds on this 11-song, 37-minuute disc, and enough metallic-KO attitude to make a bare-chested grandpa like Iggy Pop proud. What’s missing is a more varied set of fully fleshed-out songs, the kind it took the White Stripes four albums to write. Hype too early in a career can be terrible burden--ask Liz Phair or, soon enough, the Vines. Better to enjoy Fever to Tell for what it is--an uninhibited blast of garage-rock fury--without swallowing extravagant claims for a potentially great band still under construction. --Keith Moerer

Chronique amazon.fr

5.0 out of 5 stars O Yeah., Jun 10 2004
By
This review is from: Fever To Tell (Audio CD)
This album should be everything I hate. It's simple, poppy and kind of annoying. BUT, with new yorks super woman fronting the band, 2 mediocore looking boys that can barely play their instruments, making hash riffs that really are the best that they could be, whats not to love? Karen O sounds like she's going through multiple drunken orgasms while singing such masterpieces as "maps". While the rest of the band plays snappy, poppy guitar riffs that only compliments the whole show. This album is really the best album out there for anyone looking for something new, fun, loud, different, trendy and damn good. Oh yeah... Karen O is hot. Like a Fever.

1.0 out of 5 stars Seriously....people are buying this stuff?, Nov 20 2003
This review is from: Fever To Tell (Audio CD)
Wow. All of this music has been made before, albeit by different bands in different eras. Admittedly, Karen puts on a good show, but wow....that voice is not made for lead vocals.
Aging fans of Avril Lavene who consider themselves too old for bubble gum punk will not be disappointed. It's like Avril with (gulp) cuss words....that oh-so similar state of bands who borrow their music, lyrics and looks from bands who came before them. And clean cut fraternity boys who have punk rock girl fantasies (but would never cross that line) take heed....Just because you like the Strokes doesn't mean you have to listen to this stuff. Please draw the line somewhere. If you like Karen, buy a poster. If you like dirty rock, buy some Ramones, Stooges or Velvet Underground or something. You'll not only get some good music, but you'll be teaching yourself a little history lesson.
Oh yeah...overall...if I must make a comparison....Siouxsie and the Banshees meets a watered down version of the New York Dolls. Ick.

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing, Nov 26 2005
This review is from: Fever To Tell (Audio CD)
The hype behind the Yeah, Yeah Yeah!'s first ep was amazing. The post punk revolution was upon us and we were ready! There full length album "Fever to Tell" barely hints at the anticipation for us to listen. No disappointments here. Unless
you happen to hate everything. Buy it. You will not be disappointed.
