Product Description

Amazon.ca

Barely out of high school when signed as the first act for Powered By Ramen's new Decaydance imprint, guitarist Ryan Ross and drummer Spencer Smith of Panic! at the Disco had previously cut their musical teeth in a local Las Vegas Blink 182 cover band. It's that familiar, contempo-punk-pop sensibility, bolstered by the amped-up emo-core ambitions of singer Brendan Urie (typified by the snarky gem "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage") that dominates the opening tracks of the album. It's a shrewd hook, one the band steadily expands -- sonically and lyrically -- thereafter. The nervous energy of "London Beckoned Songs About Money Written By Machines" is set off by sonic embroidery that's sounds as intriguing as the vocoder shtick of "Nails For Breakfast..." does dated. Yet "Camisado" quickly shakes up Supertramp's prog-pomp with a double-shot of modern punk-pop smarts, an alchemy the band and producer Mint Squire performs with similarly inventive, genre-blurring ambition (complete with a quasi-Grand Guignol "Intermission" nearly worthy of Queen) on "Lying is the Most Fun..." and such standouts as "But Its Better If You Do" and the arch delight "Build God, Then We'll Talk." Too many young bands are content slaves to fashion; this one has forged a promising debut by shrewdly taking fashion hostage, then standing it firmly on its head. -- Jerry McCulley

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing!, July 24 2006
This review is from: A Fever You Can't Sweat Out (Audio CD)
I have to admit for a while I thought they'd be a one hit wonder.... I Write Sins Not Tragedies was a great song but I didn't see them puttting out more music. So i delayed buying this cd. And recently, I bought it. It is soooo amazing! They write some pretty amazing lyrics and I love teh beats and everything. When I listened to their album and ignored teh lyrics, it sounds like it could have been made in the 30's or 40's. But with the lyrics it sounds real unqiue and amazing. I think it's great and you should buy it! So here's my review on each song:

2. The Only Difference Between Martyrdom And Suicide Is Press Coverage- 5/5
I loved it. Still do. I can't get over the "I swear to shake it up if you swear to listen" And I love the bridge.

3. London Beckoned Songs About Money Written By Machines- 5/5
Great lyrics. Great everything! I loved it! And when I read teh lyrics I was completely amazed! Who would've known Panic! would already have a song about how they don't care about the press

4. Nails For Breakfast, Tacks For Snacks- 3.5/5
My least favourite on the album. I just didn't find anythnig special in it. I like it but there's better.

5. Camisado- 5/5
I really like it! I adore the chorus and this is one song taht I can (and have) put on repeat for hours!

6. Time to Dance- 4.5/5
Pretty good. Im just not a huge fan of the lyrics for some reason but I'm in love with everything else about it. Especially the intro. And I love the "When I say 'Shotgun' you say 'Wedding'"Why is it so great? I have no idea whatsoever but it still is!

7. Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off- 5/5
SOOOOOOO good! I don't know what it is about this song taht makes me love it! It's one of those songs that you listen to and it puts a smile on yoru face no matter how your feeling. Not to mention that the "Let's get these teen hearts beating. faster, faster" is my favourite line of the song and I can't get it out of my head!

9. But It's Better If You Do- 4.5/5
It's good but not the best. But I do love how it leads into the next song.

10. I Write Sins Not Tragedies- 4/5
Its a really great song but I think hearing it on the radio and seeing it on muchmusic so much ruined it for me. I really liek it though and it made me buy the album.

11. I Constantly Thank God For Esteban- 4.5/5
I am in love with the lyrics and the way Brendon sings the chorus. But I think they have better songs.

12. There's A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey. You Just Haven't Thought Of It Yet- 6/5
Yes I know I put 6/5 but it deserves it! It is teh most amazing song on the album and has great lyrics that anyone can connect to! Who doesn't have an ex that they want to get back at? Amazing lyrics, really imaginative. Also has amazing beats. But the thnigs that won me over... the trumpet. You don't hear trumpets often but wow! I wnat more trumpets! I want songs with full orchestras! Wheres my flutes and saxophones??? lol

13. Build God, Then We'll Talk- 5/5
Great song title. It still makes me laugh everytime I see it. Also has great lyrics, I like how it's a story. But my favourite part has to be the "Rains drops on roses..." yeah that whole part its great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Panic! At The Disco may be one of the bands to save music!, Mar 28 2006
This review is from: A Fever You Can't Sweat Out (Audio CD)
Over the last while, music has been ruled by hip-hop and really cheesy pop. There was no rock or indie bands constantly ruling the charts. That has now changed! This CD was one of the greatest I have listened to in months. I haven't taken it out of my stereo since I bought it! I had to like every one of the songs on the CD. I can't bring myself to insult them. There is a good part to each of the songs. If I had to pick my top three though, it'd be...

3. There's A Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Figured It Out Yet

2. I Write Sins Not Tragedies

1. It's Time To Dance

So there you have it. Panic! At The Disco, along with Fall Out Boy, The Academy Is..., and many other bands, may save us from constantly listening to Kanye West touching the sky......
