5.0 out of 5 stars Fight Back: Save and Spend Your Money Wisely Feb. 9 2013
Fight Back: 81 Ways to Help You Save Money and Protect Yourself from Corporate Trickery by Ellen Roseman offers very practical advice and tips in dealing with everyday financial matters. Each advice is provided in 2-3 pages which makes it easy to read article-by-article depending upon your interests. A wide range of topics are covered from Banking,Tracking Personal Finances, Controling your Telecom Costs, Stretching your Travel dollars, and Making Big purchases like Cars and Home. Two of the best chapters in this book which I liked were How to Fight Back against Poor Retail Service and How to Use Your Communication skills or the "Art of Complaining". Written in an easy style this book is easy to understand even if you are not a financial expert.

Read this book and it will save you money.

The Most important tip from this book is: If you never ask, your will never know what you might receive.

Journalist Ellen Roseman is a consumer crusader! I ordered her book and was so impressed with her bio as champion for wronged consumers that I wrote to her via her official web site about the frustration of dealing with Reliance and terminating a water heater contract after 25 years of paying faithfully. Despite following all the instructions from Reliance to cancel the contract for the now obsolete water heater, I was still being invoiced for months and when I telephoned their 'customer service' I was put on hold for up to 20 minutes, transferred from several departments and obviously being passed around to get rid of my persistence. Ellen Rosemans good relationship with Reliance and contacting them on my behalf resulted in a phone call from Reliance within 24 hours 'cancelling' my contract at last and withdrawing the ridiculous charges they attempted to levy. Well Done Ellen Roseman! I highly recommend this book.

Although the book started with issues I was already knew about, it moved to other topics that had some good advice for me, on travel, banking, cell phone plans, etc. I think it is worth the money to purchase the book, and given that every one's "starting information base" is different, I bet there will be some great points and advice that you will appreciate in this book. I highlighted points in various chapters that would help me, or my friends and family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reading this book will save you money! April 19 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Most books propose way to save money that are not practical or too vague. This book on the other hand, has very specific and up-to-date short lessons about saving money that is just worthwhile. I am really not a penny pincher but by reading this book, I managed to immediately save myself over $1000 in the upcoming year just in my banking and telecommunication services alone. I switched my credit card, negotiated a new deal Rogers, and learned how to get goodwill gesture when it is due!

The lessons provided in this book are very practical and specific. It is not just some vague suggestion that doesn't really tell you anything you didn't already know. I am a very money conscious person and may now a lot of tricks about negotiation, but this book provided some great insight into learning to KNOW MY RIGHTs! It provided specific suggestions on ways to fight back when you have been unfairly treated and the options you may have. I learned many great things by reading this book that I think I may not have ever learned or knew about otherwise.

All in all, if you would like to learn about your rights and cool new ways to save money with the advancement of technology, you may find this book a great read. It helped me save money, and I hope it helps you too! Let the fight begin!
