Product Description

Big can be beautiful, when a woman chooses clothes that flatter her curves, make her feel confident, and express her inner loveliness. Now, plus-size women can learn all the important fashion tricks, with a guide that puts style right at their fingertips. It’s designed to help larger ladies cultivate that special signature look and see themselves objectively. The photos are the key: they’ll tell you whether a sweater does hide that tummy or if a pair of pants minimizes the rear. There are also attractive solutions for specific problems every woman faces, and ideas for celebrating the best parts of your figure. From work to play, every occasion is fashionably covered. Both authors live in New York, NY.

4.0 out of 5 stars could anything be better?, July 12 2004
This review is from: Figure It Out! The Real Woman's Guide to Great Style (Paperback)
i'm love fashion and clothes and love to shop, so i was happy to see all the style books that have come out recently. but i was dissapointed becuase so many of them have advice that doesn't work for bigger girls. so when i saw Figure It Out,i bought copies for me and my sister-- it has style tips that REALLY make us look good and REALLY fit our bodies well. and it has beautiful models! i love the book and it has changed the way we shop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book. "What Not to Wear" for Plus sizes., July 9 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Figure It Out! The Real Woman's Guide to Great Style (Paperback)
I just bought this book at Lane Bryant and I really like it. It is like "What Not to Wear" with a lot more specifics for the plus size body. I would definitely recommend this to friends.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money, Mar 8 2005
By D-Bear - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Figure It Out! The Real Woman's Guide to Great Style (Paperback)
I thought this book was going to be a great help in dressing my plus-size figure. What a disappointment! Although the pictures are clear, and seeing plus-size women who look lovely is inspiring, there is not much substance to this title to make it worth the money, and the cutesy captions are just plain silly. This is a simplified version of the "What Not to Wear" books and you'd be better off buying them even though they don't feature plus-sized figures. Most of the advice in this book could apply to any size woman as it is based on 4 basic body shapes that actually have nothing to do with size, but everything to do with genetics. Even a size 6 can have an hourglass figure, or a pear shaped bod. While they do mention accessories, very little if any attention is given to other aspects of style such as flattering hairstyles and lovely makeup that downplay problem areas and make the most of your best features.
There are many other plus-sized fashion guides, and even ones aimed at regular sizes, that are much more helpful such as "Always in Style" by Doris Pooser and "Plus Style." by Suzan Nanfeldt. In fact, check out Figure Magazine, (Geri Brin is the Editor), at least there you can find designer names and stores to find the clothes in.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Plus Size Women, Aug 3 2004
By S. D. Bledsoe "renaissance woman" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Figure It Out! The Real Woman's Guide to Great Style (Paperback)
I agree with the reviewer who said that this book is like "What Not to Wear" for full-figured women. The HOAX system of body-typing is really helpful in determining which clothes are most flattering to a particular figure. The only complaint that I have is that the book does not specify the body type of the models used. Other than that, I highly recommend it.
