Product Description

Motown's first white rock group was every bit as funky and soulful as their Motor City labelmates, yet Rare Earth has been far too rare in the CD era-until now! Get Ready for this awesome 3-CD set from Hip-O Select that collects their first 5 charting studio albums: Get Ready ('69), Ecology ('70), One World ('71), Willie Remembers ('72) and Ma ('73), featuring classics like (I Know) I'm Losing You; I Just Want to Celebrate; Born to Wander , and Big John is My Name . You also get 9 bonus single sides including the hit edit of Get Ready and the Top 20 non-lp cut Hey Big Brother . 43 massive tracks plus a 32-page booklet...and it's all housed in a curved-top box that mimics the unique design of those original Rare Earth label releases!

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the price for One World!!! Nov 1 2011

Rare Earth was a very poor man's white soul group. Weak vocals and overblown solos.....this resulted in a very inconsistent records. However in 1971 they got the formula right and produced a classic Rock/Soul album in One World. From start of What I'd Say (Best Ray Charles cover) to finish with the spiritual (hippie) message of Under God's Light the album is a enjoyable listen. The rest of the collection contains a few choice tracks - Big Brother, Born To Wander, Get Ready (single version ..) the rest is pretty horrific. I have seen better Soul/Rock bands at the Holiday Inn in Idaho! I normally would give a 5 star rating due to One World however the inclusion of the dreadful MA reduces my rating. Interestly enough MA was a top seller in 1973 .....

5.0 out of 5 stars great band - one of my all time favourites Oct 28 2008
Format:Audio CD
Haven't brought this album yet, but I will as soon as I can afford it - seems a tad expensive. I saw Rare Earth live at Ottawa's Civic Centre in the 1970s (can't remember what year) and fell in love with the band right away - one of the best bands I've ever heard, and I've heard quite a few, live. I have their "Ma" and "The Best of Rare Earth" on CD and listen to both often. (I rather optimistically gave this product five stars although I haven't heard it yet - just based on my past experience with this band)
