Product Description

Best-selling writer Grant Morrison (BATMAN, ALL-STAR SUPERMAN, JLA) and critically acclaimed artist J.G. Jones (52, Wanted) redefine what it means to be a modern day Super Hero in this cosmic epic.

What happens when evil wins? That's the question Superman, Batman, the Justice League and every being in the DCU have to face when Darkseid and his otherworldly legion of narcissistic followers actually win the war between light and dark. Featuring the deaths and resurrections of major DC characters, FINAL CRISIS is more than your average multi-part event - it's a deconstruction of Super Hero comics and a challenging, thought-provoking take on the modern, four-color icons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant but polarizing, July 13 2010

This is not a book that you can read passively, and this is why so many people find it frustrating. There is an insane level of depth here, but Morrison trusts his audience to use their own imagination to get the most out of the story. What does this mean to the reader? It means this book requires you to THINK in order to enjoy it, not simply absorb the words and images passively, as is the norm for most superhero work.
So there you go, that's the challenge of Final Crisis. Chances are you'll either love it or hate it, but whichever side you fall on will be dependent on how much time and effort you're willing to put into an amazing story. I'll attest that it's worth it and then some. Little doubt that in 10 years this is going to be considered one of the best comic works of the decade.

Definitely only for fans of mind-bending sci-fi, though, and the more you know of the DC Universe the better.

1.0 out of 5 stars For Morrison fans only, May 3 2009

This review is from: Final Crisis (Hardcover)
This is the most polarizing story DC has ever put out. Those who enjoy Grant Morrison and enjoy non-linear storytelling will probably like this.
Those expecting a big DC event like COIE or Infinite Crisis will be frustrated. The author himself calls this a "channel-zapping" experiment. Whole key parts of the story are glossed over or omitted. Was Hawkman killed? Better read interviews after, because you can't tell from what happens in this comic. Aquaman is back? Well, for two panels, sort of. But not really.
I hated this series. It turned me off DC books and especially off Morrison.
You will either think this is brilliant or pure and utter crap. Not much middle ground for 99 per cent of comic book fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Breath of Fresh Air, Dec 22 2009

This review is from: Final Crisis (Hardcover)
Read this if you want something a little more experimental than your average superhero comic. Final Crisis is the antidote to all the boring, heavy-handed, depressing, and generic comics on the stands today.

Superman Beyond is included with this collection along with the main series, and is even more insane and amazing than the rest.

I can't recommend this highly enough for anyone with an open mind. Warning: All other comics may pale in comparison.
