Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Morganna Hutton, an orphaned painter and filthy rich heiress-to-be from Long Island, comes of age the hard way after she weds handsome, Scottish fortune hunter Archie Edge in the latest page-turner from Davies (Nest of Vipers). Archie's mother, the scheming antiques collector Rosamond Edge, helps her son fleece his young trusting wife of millions under the guise of renovating the family's rundown ancestral castle on Cape Wrath. By midbook, the proceedings take a Rosemary's Baby-like turn, and Morganna, who narrates in rapid-fire declarative sentences, must wise up before it's too late. A host of secondaries includes Geoffrey Hollander, a tall banker given to panic attacks who is Morganna's guardian from childhood, and Ben McIntyre, a terse shepherd who proves a loyal ally. Scottish financial thriller writer Davies once again proves expert in crafting absorbing suspense.

Book Description

When love goes wrong, death is the most final settlement of all. Morganna Hutton is a young artist, beautiful and rich. When she falls in love with the handsome Archie Edge, she thinks he is the answer to her prayers, until the nightmares begin. But the love of money is the root of all evil, and wickedness in glamorous disguise stalks this compulsive book. From the grand houses of Long Island to the wilds of Scotland, we follow Morganna, first in her quest for love and then for justice... --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Linda Davies - a terrific, new talet, Feb 12 2006
By

This review is from: Final Settlement (Paperback)
I read Linda Davies 'Final Settlement' in 2005 and found this to be an exciting and enticing book. It kept me up late several nights and at the end I was looking for more of her stories. I agree with a previous reviewer, though, that the main character was a bit too 'with it' to be only 20 years old. The settings and characters were very believable and I look forward to more of her publications.

5.0 out of 5 stars Always good reads., Jan 2 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Final Settlement (Paperback)
I read all of Linda Davies' books. They are always good thriller reads; I can't figure out why she isn't more popular. All are very literate and smart page-turners. She published her first couple books in the US, but the rest are more difficult to find here. I always purchase whether British or Canadian editions. I save her books every year for my New Years weekend. Her heroines are always strong; my only gripe with this book was that the heroine was too young. Never would you believe this woman was 20 - she didn't think, act, or talk like a 20-year old woman, no matter how she was raised. Still had loads of fun reading it though!

1.0 out of 5 stars run away, Sep 13 2007

If you've read Davies' wonderful thrillers -- Nest of Vipers, Wilderness of Mirrors, Into the Fire -- and are hoping for more of that here, run away. Run fast. This is a romance/chic lit mess. Entirely narrated in the first person (there is almost no dialogue) the book hits new lows, even for the genre of stupid women making bad choices.

Here's hoping Davies goes back to writing action adventures with strong, smart women. Perhaps this was written by her evil twin?

I love this author but this is not my favorite book of hers. Having said that, this is an entertaining book, but tends to drag and is a bit predictable. However, the story is good and this is different than her other books. The subject matter is different, the style is different also. I enjoyed it, but didn't love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Art imitating life?, Jan 27 2007
By A_2007_reader - Published on Amazon.com

I haven't read this book, but in real life the author shortly after writing this book ran into some spy problems with the Iranians, while cruising with her boat off the coast of Iran.

Art imitating life? Or life imitating art?
