Product Description

Sweetness that doesn't turn saccharine is hard to find these days; Finding Neverland hits the mark. Much credit is due to the actors: Johnny Depp applies his genius for sly whimsy in his portrayal of playwright J. M. Barrie, who finds inspiration for his greatest creation from four lively boys, the sons of widow Sylvia Llewelyn Davies (Kate Winslet, who miraculously fuses romantic yearning with common sense). Though the friendship threatens his already dwindling marriage, Barrie spends endless hours with the boys, pretending to be pirates or Indians--and gradually the elements of Peter Pan take shape in his mind. The relationship between Barrie and the Llewelyn Davies family sparks both an imagined world and a quiet rebellion against the stuffy forces of respectability, given physical form by Barrie's resentful wife (Radha Mitchell, High Art) and Sylvia's mother (Julie Christie, McCabe and Mrs. Miller). This gentle silliness could have turned to treacle, but Depp and Winslet--along with newcomer Freddie Highmore as one of the boys--keep their feet on the earth while their eyes gaze into their dreams. Also featuring a comically crusty turn from Dustin Hoffman (who appeared in another Peter Pan-themed movie, Hook) as a long-suffering theater producer. --Bret Fetzer --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely Depp-tastic! May 23 2007
By Deppian
I know, I probably sound REALLY cheesy, but this movie really deserves those five stars. Johnny Depp is the only reason I agreed to watch the movie. However, five minutes of the movie made me forget that I had expected it to be boring. Each and every actor played their part very well. Johnny Depp is of course, EXCELLENT, as always. The kids were good and Dustin Hoffman was classic although he didnt have much to do. Kate Winslet was quite impressive as well.

Its a very touching and emotional movie. Definitely worth watching. Who says Johnny Depp's only good performance is in Pirates?? Watch this first, please before you say that.

3.0 out of 5 stars This DVD Contains A PUO Ad For Pontiac March 27 2005
This is a great movie with some excellent performances, with child actor Freddie Highmore stealing the show. However, this DVD contains a Pontiac ad that you cannot get out of sitting through. I found out from the internet that it's called a Prohibited User Operations (PUO) ad. This is the first time I've come across one and frankly I got so mad it took me awile to start watching the movie without spitting bile.
Imagine paying almost 30 bucks for a DVD and being forced to watch an automobile ad every time you pop in the DVD. It's enough to turn you into a raving conspiracy theorist.
Anyway, Johnny Depp's incredible as usual, and Barrie's story is a poignant one. Don't miss it, but I wouldn't recommend the DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awsome movie and an excellent soundtrack July 6 2006
People shouldn't judge the movie just because there is a car add before it. I know we didn't buy the DVD to watch the add but rate the movie not the add! Anyhow I saw the movie too many times to count and still it gets to me, the emotions, the imagination, the acting and so on are so beautifully portrayed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Screw the car ad - I loved it May 4 2007
Finding Neverland is one of the best ways to truly get the point across. I mean, it is one thing to watch Peter Pan, or Hook, but to watch this movie, and explore all of the inspirtations that James Barrie used is....well, phenominal. It doesn't drag on, the ending is stupendous, and the boys are some of the most remarkable young actors that I have ever seen on the screen. It's a magical film that inspires imagination and youth. Everyone should see this movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never mind the ad, this is golden March 31 2009
This is a wonderful journey into the creation of Peter Pan, and the workings of the kind, generous heart and mind of the genius behind the story. His steadfast and unselfish giving to a family that was open enough to believe and pretend along with the real Peter Pan, Sir James Barrie, is completely captivating. Don't let a brief ad throw you off of enjoying this lovely movie - that's the time to go and make popcorn. If people reviewing focused less on the ad and more on the messages intended by this movie, they'd be better for it. We need more movies like this one, especially one that helps us understand and celebrate a brief snippet in the life of one man who shared his remarkable ability to help us all believe in the possibility of Neverland.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, emotional movie Sept. 25 2006
This is a wonderfully done movie and all the actors are wonderful, particularly Johnny Depp. It's a beautiful story about how Peter Pan came to be and how J.M. Barrie came to meet the Llewelyn-Davies family. It's not 100% accurate, but not all movies based on real events are hence why it's says "based on true events".

It has it's funny moments, cute moments and it's sad moments, which are so wonderfully acted that when it comes to the sad moments they cause me to cry every time. If you're especially sensitive then you're going to need lots of tissues!

All-in-all a delightful movie and I highly recommend it. Sure there is that POU in it, but so what? If you don't want to watch it, then mute it and talk to your family or go make popcorn or whatever. It's not a reason to give the movie a low rating, it's just an irritant or to the media world, the chance at selling a car. I hope they fired whoever thought it would be a good idea to put a POU car ad before the movie, because I usually skip the movie ads and go straight to the menu.
