Sweetness that doesn't turn saccharine is hard to find these days; Finding Neverland hits the mark. Much credit is due to the actors: Johnny Depp applies his genius for sly whimsy in his portrayal of playwright J. M. Barrie, who finds inspiration for his greatest creation from four lively boys, the sons of widow Sylvia Llewelyn Davies (Kate Winslet, who miraculously fuses romantic yearning with common sense). Though the friendship threatens his already dwindling marriage, Barrie spends endless hours with the boys, pretending to be pirates or Indians--and gradually the elements of Peter Pan take shape in his mind. The relationship between Barrie and the Llewelyn Davies family sparks both an imagined world and a quiet rebellion against the stuffy forces of respectability, given physical form by Barrie's resentful wife (Radha Mitchell, High Art) and Sylvia's mother (Julie Christie, McCabe and Mrs. Miller). This gentle silliness could have turned to treacle, but Depp and Winslet--along with newcomer Freddie Highmore as one of the boys--keep their feet on the earth while their eyes gaze into their dreams. Also featuring a comically crusty turn from Dustin Hoffman (who appeared in another Peter Pan-themed movie, Hook) as a long-suffering theater producer. --Bret Fetzer --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Its a very touching and emotional movie. Definitely worth watching. Who says Johnny Depp's only good performance is in Pirates?? Watch this first, please before you say that.
play Peter Pan.Kate Winslet plays the love interest.Depp is great,as
usual and Winslet is also strong.i believe she is a very underrated
actress and i hope Hollywood figures it out soon.anyway, this is a
magical fable which both kids and adults will enjoy.i left the theatre
feeling very satisfied and impressed.watching this movie will make you
forget about your troubles and warm your heart.for me,this movie is
brilliant."Finding Neverland"is a definite 5/5 from me
Imagine paying almost 30 bucks for a DVD and being forced to watch an automobile ad every time you pop in the DVD. It's enough to turn you into a raving conspiracy theorist.
Anyway, Johnny Depp's incredible as usual, and Barrie's story is a poignant one. Don't miss it, but I wouldn't recommend the DVD.
It has it's funny moments, cute moments and it's sad moments, which are so wonderfully acted that when it comes to the sad moments they cause me to cry every time. If you're especially sensitive then you're going to need lots of tissues!
All-in-all a delightful movie and I highly recommend it. Sure there is that POU in it, but so what? If you don't want to watch it, then mute it and talk to your family or go make popcorn or whatever. It's not a reason to give the movie a low rating, it's just an irritant or to the media world, the chance at selling a car. I hope they fired whoever thought it would be a good idea to put a POU car ad before the movie, because I usually skip the movie ads and go straight to the menu.

Thanks for the heads-up! It's stupid to include ads or trailers on DVDs (whether they can be skipped or not)!
Too bad because the movie's great.
I was going to buy this as a present but now I know about the ad I'll just send a widescreen copy I taped on the BBC and send that instead.
Same as other people I do not want to be forced to watch commercials after having paid $30 for a DVD. It's bad enough movie theatres tend to do this now my own DVD's? Read morePublished on Dec 7 2005
The movie was one of the best in the last couple of years. I wanted to buy it, but thanks for the warning about the Pontiac ads. Read morePublished on Aug. 5 2005
