Book Description

April 25 2008

Today's digital cameras provide image data files allowing large-format output at high resolution. At the same time, printing technology has moved forward at an equally fast pace bringing us new inkjet systems capable of printing in high precision at a very fine resolution, providing an amazing tonality range and longtime stability of inks.

Moreover, these systems are now affordable to the serious photographer. In the hands of knowledgeable and experienced photographers, these new inkjet printers can help create prints comparable to the highest quality darkroom prints on photographic paper.

This book provides the necessary foundation for fine art printing: The understanding of color management, profiling, paper and inks. It demonstrates how to set up the printing workflow as it guides the reader step-by-step through this process from an image file to an outstanding fine art print.

This is an excellent book. It not just about printing. The authors discuss the basic principles of digital imaging (including editing) and then show you how to apply these principles to produce a Fine Art Print once you have our image on your computer. They also discuss some of the printers that are available for Fine Art Printing. The book has just the right mix of theory and "How To" procedures. It is well written, and the images are stunning (I wish there had been more). I have been a photographer for 75 years, but learned many things from this book that will help me produce better prints. If you are serious about photography, buy this book and study it carefully.

5.0 out of 5 stars THERE IS A NEW VERSION OUT IN 2011! April 9 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
According to Outback Photo ( the author's website ), there is a new version of this book, a REVISED version, that you oughta check out.

This book provides so much "gold" that the minor typos & slight misunderstandings ( in areas *outside* of their expertise, like offset-printing, e.g. ) are ignorable.

This assumes Photoshop & Photoshop-experience.

If you invest $300+ for a printer, do yourself a favor & get this to MAKE your investment worth something!

Make your time/editing effective!

Worth every cent.

The information in this book is indispensable. We put in a lot to get the image the way we want it. You can learn about printing by trial and error but that ends up being expensive. I have files full of prints that came out wrong. Now I understand about colour profiles, the differences between papers. It also helped me make a better decision on which printer will meet my needs.
