Most valuable book I have purchased for medieval costuming,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fine Embellishment Techniques (Hardcover)
I originally purchased this book for "eye candy", thinking it would only give me modern day examples of embellishment techniques I could apply to the medieval and fantasy costumes I design and sew.I was mistaken. This is a resource guide of embellishment techniques. The (well done and many) photographs are a small part of what I have used from this book. I have learned the techniques for applying these embellishments and learned what sewing attachments and notions I can use in each case to make the task easier. This book has given me much advice on where best to use them and how. I would recommend this book to anyone sewing fantasy or medieval costumes as the one book they should buy this year.

Excellent reference,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fine Embellishment Techniques (Paperback)
Exactly what I was looking for. Excellent reference although not really for first time sewers. Gives good detail with pictures. Would have liked to see more styles discussed but there is enough detail to use for any dress style. Definitely an asset to anyone making gowns. Construction detail is very specific. Lots of tips and guides to get that perfect fit. For evening/wedding gowns - a must have book.

Great for inspiration,

While I don't share the author's design sensibilities, the technical information and supplier info was well worth the purchase of this book. I found lots of good information I could use regarding types of thread, beads, braids, etc. to use for projects, and learned some new (and useful!) sewing vocabulary words I didn't have before.
