Product Description

Amazon.ca

Having gathered much critical attention with his brash and innovative 1995 Celtic pop album, Hi How Are You Today?, Cape Breton fiddle whiz Ashley MacIsaac takes a turn for the traditional with his follow-up CD, Fine Thank You Very Much. The format of this lengthy endeavour is decidedly old school too, with each of the disc's 11 tracks separated into several distinct parts. A song starting out as a reel, for instance, may change to a jig and then to a strathspey, only to finish up as a clog. If MacIsaac is merely flaunting his arrangement acumen, let him--the results are thoroughly engaging. MacIsaac handles the lion's share of the playing here (mostly fiddle and piano). However, he gets a pair of big helping hands from Canadian Celtic music legend John Allen Cameron, who provides some outstanding guitar work on several tracks. --Chuck Molgat

5.0 out of 5 stars Tradition of Celtic Roots, April 30 2002

Fine Thank You Very Much is a blend of traditional Strathspey's, Airs and Jigs and many other dancable tunes. With special guest star John Allan Cameron and musical genii Ashley MacIsaac, how could one not think that this was going to be a spectacular CD?
If you are looking for Hi How Are You Today? tunes with guitar licks and drums, this isn't the CD to go for. This is traditional music at its best.
Start a Ceildh or kitchen party if you want. Guarentee fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow. Fantastic., Aug 9 2004

It is a testament to his amazing talent that he can hold his audience's attention for the duration of an entire album with traditional music from Nova Scotia, played on a sole acoustic fiddle. He weaves together reel after reel and the energy never lets up. If you like traditional Celtic fiddle at all, this is a masterwork and an absolute must-have. Love it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Classic Irish music -- needs voices though, Feb 1 2009

I enjoy Ashley MacIsaac's fiddle; but I enjoy it more when it is put to voice too. This CD is full of purely instrumental tunes. While the tunes are good (mostly piano and violin), it would be great if I could hear the "stories" sung to me as well.
