While my favorite game in the series continues to be Radiant Dawn, I am very keen on this game.

-Its story is bland, as mentioned in other reviews, but it has some fun and silly characters which have their own personality quirks, which makes even the most minor characters memorable. This is something I don't think the other games in the series have managed to consistently do. Otherwise the story is pretty stock Fire Emblem fare.

-Its gameplay is very fun, strategic and engaging, simple and yet challenging. I played the game on Hard Classic, which is most like the 'traditional' Fire Emblem experience. I like that you can play the game in a variety of ways; if you hate the permanent death, you can turn it off, even if otherwise you want a challenge. I feel like the difficulty modes allow you to recommend it to a newcomer of the series. The one complaint I have about the gameplay is that the reinforcements appear and attack immediately. While this is probably most accurate to a real life ambush, it means that sometimes your characters die in ways beyond your control, which to me defeats the purpose of having such a highly predictable game(NOTE: This only happens in Hard mode and above). There are skills which are unique to each class of characters which spice up the differences between the people. The difference in quality between the characters is lower than the other Fire Emblem games, which means you can feel free to use whoever you want more readily!

-Aesthetically, the game is great. The graphics are nice (even if the people don't have feet), the music is lovely, and the character art is very nice.

Overall, I think Fire Emblem: Awakening is a great game with a couple of flaws, but still worth playing.

Fire Emblem is probably my favourite gaming franchise and definitely the one I buy each installment of most loyally (it was in fact a major reason why I wanted a 3DS in the first place and the first game that I bought when I got one), but even I can admit that the quality throughout the series has varied heavily from game to game. I know a lot of other people who've been playing Fire Emblem for as long as I have were disappointed in this game, but honestly it slots easily into my top three in the franchise. The characters are instantly likeable, the plot while predictable is engaging, the second generation mechanic is tons of fun, and all the throwbacks to previous games are awesome. Fire Emblem's basic game play never changes a heck of a lot between generations or between consoles so these elements absolutely make the game.

I also know the game has got a lot of flack for things like "casual mode" (i.e. you can choose for deaths to no longer be permanent) and the return of the map system (thus allowing grinding between chapters), but these elements are entirely optional and there's nothing stopping you from playing without using them (although if Lunatic+ mode isn't difficult enough for you even with these crutches around, I don't know what to say). And considering that they make the game more accessible to first timers and this could very well have been where Fire Emblem ended, I can't bring myself to complain.

great story, great game play, and great customization. I'd say its a good reason to buy a 3DS .

P.S. the $40 extra for the XL is worth it

An excellent addition to the fire emblem series. I am still hoping for a Wii U fire emblem game, but this tries me over until that happens. Great story line and a decent replay value. Well worth the price for any fire emblem fan or anyone new to the series. You do not have to play with prema death, so that is nice for the newcomers to the series.

This game is brilliant. Great story, excellent gameplay. There's literally no reason not to buy this game if you are a 3DS owner.

I have not got to play this game very much so far, but if you like previous Fire Emblem games or are a fan of turn based RPGs then I am sure you will like this game. I like how the support you can affect what happens later, as well as unlock additional dialogue between characters or just small information about them alone.

Fire emblem awakening... Oh man, where do I start? This game is amazing. I've had it for 2 weeks, and I still haven't beaten it, and because of the various classes, support pairings, and difficulties, this game has amazing reply value. It's intuitive, fun, challenging, and will last you long after your first play-through. I cannot praise it enough. Also, don't even get me started on this game's soundtrack, or I'll be here all week! Fire emblem: Awakening. 10/10, 420/420, etc. It's amazing. (Btw, Owain best character. ;3 )
