Musician extraordinaire Charlie Daniels is best known for his foot stomping fiddle-fest, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," but those who want to see the true progression of his work should check out his earlier work, particularly Fire on the Mountain. Alternately opinionated and tender, a balladeer as well as a hoe-down ring leader, Daniels effortlessly merged a variety of genres into his sound, and at the center of it all was his fiddle. His bad-ass anthem, "The South's Gonna Do It Again," was a live favorite, and in it Daniels's pride in his homeland stops just short of waving the Confederate flag. Its studio counterpart loses none of its energy. "Long Haired Country Boy" also displays Daniels's storytelling finesse and his "don't tread on me" attitude, and neither "Trudy" nor "King Size Rosewood Bed" have lost any of their appeal over time. --Steve Gdula

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for Southern Rock fans Feb 18 2008
Format:Audio CD
This album first bought Charlie Daniels the fame and glory he deserved and showcased his different styles. It opens with the Tex-Mex boogie of "Caballo Diablo." There's also the country rockin "Trudy," the rebel rousing "South's Gonna Do It" with all its references to Southern Rock bands and artists. "Feeling Free" and "New York City King Size Rosewood Bed" are also rockers of the highest order. There's also the long bluesy "No Place to Go." Daniels also shows his more country music side with "Long Haired Country Boy" which was a minor pop hit and went Top 40 country in 1980. "Georgia" is excellent country bluegrass. Plus who could play the country standard "Orange Blossom Special" more rockin, fast, and furious than Daniels? The first great Charlie Daniels album. He would draw in even more country music fans with his next release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Charlie Daniels Album Sep 28 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN and MILLION MILE REFLECTIONS are the two best studio albums by Charlie Daniels. If you're new to Daniels' music get these two and A DECADE OF HITS- preferably all at once.
