My favorite of the Fire Series, July 14 2009
By Romance Reader - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Fire And Steel (Paperback)
I can't say enough good things about the Anita Mills medieval Fire series. They are incredibly written with believable characters making personal and political choices within the context of the 11th and 12th century. If you are a romance fan, you must read this series. I don't understand why it hasn't been reissued to be more available to new fans.
This first book perfectly sets up the conflicts and relationships which will enfold in its sequel Fire and Steel. Fire and Steel is my favorite of the series because I find the hero Guy to be very compelling. The book follows the rise and fall and rise again of his political and personal fortunes, which are closely intertwined with his marriage to the heroine. All the main characters from the prior book are present in this novel.
ROBERT BELESME IS THE MOST MEMORABLE BAD GUY IN ALL THE ROMANCE NOVELS I HAVE READ (WHICH IS QUITE A FEW!). He's not your usual two-dimensional obsessive brute set up as the foil for the hero. Yes, he is violent (very true to the medieval genre), but he is a thinking, feeling man and this second novel tells the story of his revenge on the characters of the first novel. In order to get the full picture of Belesme, you really should read Lady of Fire, the first novel.
I keep re-reading these books, the way I re-read the Julia Quinn Bridgerton novels and the Patricia Veryan Golden Chronicles. I put these books in that category of superb romance and adventure.

Proud, beautiful Catherine de Brione vowed never to give her heart to the handsome, darling Guy de Rivaux whom she was forced to wed. She was sure she loved another man, who had captivated her since girlhood. But against a backdrop of turmoil and intrigue in 11th Century Normandy, Catherine found it hard to resist the fiery kisses of the man she had wed.
