Product Description

From Booklist

Karigan is a Green Rider, one of the king's elite troop of messengers, each of whom is called as magic in the blood answers an ancient summons. Since the breaching of the D'Yer Wall, which protects Sacoridia from the malignant forces of the Blackveil Forest, however, all the magic in the land has become unpredictable, including that of the Riders. With tainted magic escaping into the world, and Karigan herself poisoned by it, the last thing she needs is to start having visions and hearing voices--visions of the First Rider, Lil Ambriodhe, long-dead founder of the troop, and voices whispering of an age-old, unbreakable link between Lil and Karigan. Lil has seen Karigan's future and that of Sacoridia, and the land will come to no good end if Karigan and Lil together are unable to overcome the great evil that is about to enter the world. Fans of The Green Rider (1998) will be very happy to see its sequel, which, fortunately, stands well on its own. Paula Luedtke

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, July 28 2003
By A Customer
Kristen Britain's "First Rider's Call" is a sequel to "Green Rider", her outstanding debut novel. Reading "Green Rider" will certainly help you fully appreciate this wonderful second effort. In FRC, Karigan G'ladheon has finally given in to destiny and joined the Green Riders, a messenger/spy service. While on a delegation to the Eletian kingdom, Karigan and her companions are attacked by a mysterious spirit. With the delegation decimated, Karigan returns to Sacor City to report on the wraith and its peculiar focus on her personally. Magical accidents and attacks are soon occuring all over the kingdom and Green Rider magic itself begins to malfunction. And then things really start to go wrong when Captain Mapstone locks herself in her room. This is a truly enjoyable fantasy adventure, with strong characters and realistic solutions to problems (both magical and personal). Karigan's romantic trials are dealt with more fully in this novel, although readers are left with a cruel cliffhangers on several essential matters. These cliffhangers (including one in particular involving a certain king!) and the absence of the Berry sisters are my only real complaints about the novel, and I'm sure that will be solved in the next book. Buy this!

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!!, Jun 3 2004
By A Customer
I simply fell in love with Britains first book - Green Rider - and couldn't wait to read to sequal!! In First Rider's Call, Karigan is faced with so much evil from the past, and so much confusion happening to her in the future!! As I read through the book I couldn't help but get into character myself, especially with everyone of Britains characters!! I laughed and I cried in frustration along with Karigan and her friends!! As I finished the book, I couldn't help but wonder whether Karigan G'Ladeon's story was really through. I certainly hope not!! And I can't wait to find out if and when Britain will write the third book!! This is just too good of a story to let lie! And so much still needs to be done!! And I'm sure fans of Britain will also agree!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book!, May 9 2004
First Rider's Call, sequel to Green Rider, is really excellent. It continues the story of our favorite green rider, Karigan. After resisting the call for about a year, she finally succumbs to the wills of Lil, the first green rider. Although this book was somewhat less exciting then the first, it was definatly the better of the two. Karigan grows into a more developed charater as do those around her. The story focuses on the beginnings of the Green Riders, and the influx of magic that's effecting the surrounding land. The ending does not dispoint but is bittersweet leaving many issues unresolved. I'm personally looking forward to the next in this intriguing series.
